I am a 44 year old female. I went to my PCP, I have numbing and tingling in my left arm from my fingertips to my shouldblade, it is intermittent, sometimes in my hand, sometimes just my elbow, sometimes in my shoulder, sometimes all at the same time! I have mobility issues with the arm, i'll go grasp something and sometimes my grasp will slip. or, if i reach to put the top to a sandwhich i am making, the cross over action and going to grip is sometimes difficult.

I am on naproxen and on some night time nerve medication.

I went to the orthopedist who did not find anything wrong with me except symptoms I am describing above. He took xrays of my neck and upper spine. all looked good he said.

I am now scheduled to go to a neurologist on monday to get and EMG and another test done.

I recently had a flu shot about a month ago, and do not know if those symptoms are a result of the flu shot or not.

I have been having the symptoms for about two weeks now.

Tonite, I notced a bunch of fever blisters (like 10-12) emerging on my upper/lower lips. I took a Valtrex that I had for this.

Any suggestions ? I'm open to all. Thanks in advance. Bayoubabe

  • I don't know if you've found out what is the cause of your symptoms or not, but it sounds a lot like what I have been going through for the last week.About a week ago, I had this weird tingling/numbness feeling in my lip and chin area. Then I started feeling really fatigued and run-down. A day later I started getting blisters inside of my mouth--on my tongue, my throat, my gums--and had shooting pains through some of my teeth. I went to the doctor and she said it was cold sores and put me on Valtrex. The next morning, I woke up, and the blisters had spread to my lips, my chin, and up my jawline. I went back to the doctor and she gasped when she saw me and immediately sent me to an Infectious Disease specialist.Turns out, I have shingles. I'm about a week into it and I have a long ways to go still. I have blisters all up the side of my face. Not a pretty sight.Anyways, I hope you've found out what's going on with your symptoms!

  • Wow ! that is amazing. I hope you get better soon. I too , have fever blisters above my lips, and happen to have Valtrex on had for such occasions. I had shingles about 14 years ago, after the birth of our second kid... It is very painful. Take care. • UPDATE : (with past history) I had a flu shot Oct. 2, after that for the next couple of weeks, I experienced numbing and tingling in my left arms from my fingertips to my shoulderblade, I dismissed it as an 'aftereffect' of the shot. Week three went by, I went to the PCP, described the problems, She put me on Naprosyn and Neurontin, which only masked the problems, as the numbing and tingling were still there. Week four, I started having motor problems, dropping cups and plates, etc. I went to an orthopedic, everything was normal, including xray of my neck. So, onto neurologist who did a nerve conductivity test that turned out normal. . Week 5 included PAIN, and increasing into the shoulder blade. I had a full exam with the neurologist today (week 6) . He has ordered Brain MRA's and C-Spine MRI tests, which are scheduled for next Wed. I have a physical therapy evaluation next Monday. My arm just kinda hangs there. The neurologist seems to think the symptoms are MS- like and conclude it was probably from the flu shot. I took blood tests today, Including SED Rate, ANA, C React Protein, and an RA test. So, just wanted to get yall's take on the progression of things, and want to know if there is anything you may think I missed out in asking the PCP or neurologist ? I'd appreciate any advice yall may offer. Blessings to you and yours this Thanksgiving holiday, Bayoubabe

  • I have an update. I went for my physical therapy evaluation yesterday. It was painful. They ended up having me perform certain functions with my bad and good arm, and asked a lot of questions, it was a very thorough exam. She said my i had a bump at the top of my neck, and that my left shoulder was hard like a rock on the back of my shoulderblade, so she tried to work out each thing with a m-a-s-s-a-g-e WOW, I thought a massage would be a good thing... reminded me of how my grandma used to pound out dough on the kitchen counter. My neck and shoulder hurt MORE now, than before I went in !! I got some of the blood test results back. They said the ones I took were normal (found in previous post) and the ANA ? one was not back yet.I am scheduled for my MRI and MRA and Second physical therapy for tomorrow.Should I not wear deodorant for tomorrow or cremes or lotion ? for the MRI or MRA, this is my first time. thanks !http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/images/misc/progress.gif

  • Update : I had the MRA and MRI scheduled for today. I tried to do the MRI, and it was NOT for me, no I did nothing... No MRA either.. All the clanging, and being in the enclosed space, and they put this thing over my face that resembled a hockey mask. *ugh*   I'm off to Physical Therapy this afternoon. The PT thinks it may be TOS. Thanks for the advice about the pain. The PT said it would get better before it gets worse. Bayoubabe
