Since Sept 06 I have had upper abdominal pain high on the right side. This pain radiates through my body to my back under my shoulder blade. I was in the ER twice, once in Sept and once in Nov. All tests came back negative. (CT scans, Bloodwork etc). They sent me home with morphine which I cannot take because I have reactions to all Narcotics. This pain is constant and will flare up to extremely painful. I have been taking 1500 mgs of extra strength Tylenol sometimes 3 times a day and they tell me to stop because it may damage my liver. My upper abdomen seems bigger. I have a history of Gerd which was resolved by surgery. I have had numerous Upper EGD exams.
This pain is real and it can be dibillitating. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am sick of being in pain all of the time.
Thank you.:(

  • I get anywhere from an itchy rash to low heart rate and nausea, I do not consume any alcohol. I will say when I was younger and did consume alcohol that I did not get any bad reactions other than hangovers.

  • hii have exactly the same pain , i have had it now for almost 2 years as with you all my test were normal but they decided it was due to my gallbladder and had it removed 1 year ago , still the pain continued ,it feels as though someone is squeezing me really tight , it even hurts to breath when it comes on. i was just wondering if you have any other symptoms that could or could not be related..

  • I suffer from pain in the right side. It starts out just under the right ribcage and goes into my back. The only way I can describe it is this......feels as if someone is stabbing me. Have been to the ER twice, had bloodwork, x-rays, the whole nine yards. The ER doctor said that all tests came back normal, but then suggests that it could be my gallbladder, and that I should see my family doctor. Easy for him to tell me this, and would love to be able to go to my family doctor, but I am uninsured. Therefore I have been going to the free clinic. I call them for an appt. and they are booked solid and have placed my name on their call list in case someone should happen to cancel an appt. I have been suffering for 3 weeks now, and when it hits me I automatically go into a panic attack causing more problems. This is about to drive me insane, and my daughters, ages 20, and 18, are completely worn out with having to deal with me when I panic and suffer from this "God Awful" pain. :( Am thinking about going to the clinic when the doors open and sitting there until I can be seen. This is most distressing and the ER doctors act like they don't believe me when I've had to be seen in an emergency. Any of you that are suffering from gallbladder pain certainly do have my sympathy, and I hope that you aren't getting the "run-a-round" like I have. Sorry, I just had to vent on this topic. :o God BLess....

  • I thank those of you who have answered. I have had all of the bood tests and they said they were within normal limits. I had 2 CT scans and that said Gallbladder was normal. It is a stabbing pain at its worse. On the right side under my ribcage. It shoots through to my back under my shoulder blade. I am getting the run around and this has been since Sept 06. I too feel as though I am going insane from the pain. I am supposed to have an MRI on the 16th of March.

Please get yourself to an acupuncturist - they are very helpful for GB/LR disorders and will help with the pain. Do you lift weights or do any other exercises? This could be exacerbating your problem if it is muscular and not an organ disorder. Did they ever do any tests on your shoulder and scapular region? This could be causing the extreme pain - also costrochondritis is a possibility. Either way, acupuncture will help treat your pain so you can get off of that toxic dose of tylenol. • Please do not listen to anything Shula or Acuann tell you. My sister just passed away because Shula and Acuann told her that her doctor was wrong and she did not have a serious condition. Acuann even told her to get acupuncture to get healed. These people are going to be investigated for practicing medicine without a license. Shula and Acuann are specifically wanted in connection with my sisters homocide. Thats right homocide. If she would have listened to her doctor instead of these internet quacks she would still be here today. Rest assured I will do everything in my power to put these two behind bars and shut this website down for good.

  • I had an MRI on Fri and am getting results tomorrow but I am wondering if anyone has had a HIDA scan and if that diagnosed the source of the pain. I have backed off the Tylenol but the pain is worse. I really think this is a nonfunctioning gallbladder. ANyone ever have one? Thanks

  • I had my gall bladder taken out 5 years ago and they said it was non functioning--I had no stones. My symptoms were upper right side and chest pain which was really pretty bad. The surgery did nothing to relieve these pains--I've been cleared by a cardiologist and had several scans which showed nothing until I was passing the kidney stone. I still have them from time to time.

  • Thanks for the tip. my MRI was negative and so now I am having the HIDA scan today. They had already checked my kidneys. Did you have pain urinating? I donot have any problems there.ThanksAllison

  • No pain urinating at all. My biggest complaint was actually chest and shoulder blade pain--sometimes quite severe. They immediately suspected heart but it wasn't. Apparently chest pain is a pretty common symptom for a lot of other things and scarily enough you have to eliminate cardiac problems to get to them. I also have chest pain with the kidney stones that radiates to my back, side and groin.

  • Well, I am back from the HIDA scan..perfectly normal. I cannot think of anything else this could be. I had a lap nissen in 2003 and maybe scar tissue has adhered to something? This pain is right upper quadrant radiating through my body to my back just below my shoulder blade. I am very down about this pain. It is constant.

  • Ask the doc for a Hida scan. This is a neuclear scan for your gallbladder that often shows what CT and sonagrams miss. It can detect if the organ is diseased and not just if there are stones. You do have CLASSIC gallbladder symptoms and a Hida Scan would keep you from having it removed if it isn't your gallbladder. Good Luck and God Speed
