I've had an extremely swollen right lymph node, in my neck for over a year now, along with terrible insomnia, and other flu/depression symptoms after taking every antibiotic on the planet for sinus infections and such for the first few months without resolve I got it bi-opsied, the biopsy showed i didnt have a single cancer cell in my body and they still couldn't diagnose me.. after about seven bloodtests for every STD and disease, signals (like igb) pointed towards lyme disease, after being on doxycycline for months my node is still there and while I haven't been as sick as I was, I still wake up with muccus in my mouth, and can't sleep for the life of me (wake up 5-7 times a night WHILE TAKING MELATONIN AND AMBIEN) ... the node gets noticeably bigger on nights where I get little sleep, and seems to be smaller but definitely still prevalent on nights where I sleep better.. it all started last september with flu like symptoms.. ive been tested for literally everything (cat scratches and all) and have moved out of state since then.. HELP!

I am 19

  • Epstein Barr virus, causes swollen lymph nodes as well as a flu like illness, and can lead to depression (especially if you become obsessed with it). The illness that results is commonly called Mono, or glandular fever, lasts for up to two years and can leave you feeling pretty drained for much of that time. Its crappy but not usually dangerous, you should however try to avoid strenuous exercise as the virus can cause damage to your heart if you stress it too much. Its difficult to test for because almost every human being on this planet has at some stage of their lives been infected by EBV, not everyone gets glandular fever though. You also happen to be the typical age for glandular fever. It can be passed on to others through saliva, so some people call it kissing disease.

  • Thank you so much for the responses, first of all I felt I was a little vague so I'll clarify a bit:I am referring to the neck nodes, specifically my swollen one where extreme swelling is occurring on the right side of my neck (and NOT the left) straight down from my sideburn/mid-jaw.I know I phrased it completely incorrectly, but I am obviously referring to the insomnia sleep disorder: I have much trouble falling asleep even after taking both melatonin and ambien, along with following other general sleep wellness guidelines such as not eating right before sleeping, not doing anything super stimulating or exciting (like playing intense action video games), etc. -- Once I finally do manage to drift off, I will CONSISTENTLY awaken between 3-6 times in a 7-10 hour timespan until my alarm goes off or I give up.. upon awakening, I am sometimes able to fall back asleep pretty quickly but more often than not I lie in bed tossing and turning for 15m-1h.I also wake up with mucus in my mouth, and have heart palpatations, random anxiety, etc. all of which points to some sort of immune disorder I believe..So after a year of anti-biotics and 6 months of lyme treatment to no avail, along with biopsies and other tests confirming I have no sort of cancer at all, I am left dumfounded. In response to you guys:- Have not been to another country re: malaria-Not exactly if I was tested for those things in biopsy, think it was mainly a cancer issue -- what do those bacteria do/cause exactly.. muccuss has been clear and thin since I started doxy treatment for the most part-Epstein Barr/Mono was of course the first diagnosis the first doctor gave me last september because of my age, college kid, etc. didn't think it could even last over a year but would it not be showing up in all these blood tests im getting and would it cause all these symptoms? Please continue with your input, I really value any ideas more than you know, I can barely function anymore from being so drained!

  • Hi there, I'm wondering if you've made any progress in your diagnosis. I have had nearly identical symptoms for the last seven months and, like you, have tested negative for Lyme and all my blood tests have come back normal. I've gone on four different antibiotics, each of which I was on for a month, with no effect. I had a CT scan that showed slightly enlarged nodes and a nodule on my thyroid. I am currently waiting to have an ultrasound of my thyroid. If you've gotten anywhere with your diagnosis (or if you've found anything that helps with the insomnia) I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

  • I am 46 and I too have been suffering from the simular symptoms for the last 4 to 5 months; although, my glands are swollen on the left side. I have a very soar throat that has began to affect my voice, I also experience sweating (hot flashes) but have had no fever. I had a hysterectomy at 29, and the Dr has ruled out menopause. Thus far, I've ebbn treated for sinus infection and strep (without testing positive for either) with Zpack, Augmenten, Ampacillin, Amoxacillan and now I'm back on Augmenten for the next ten days. My CBC and complete blood panel came back "normal" with the exception of my liver, but the Dr said the elevation was nothing to worry about. I wake up several times per night and am very restless when I do attempt to sleep, most nights I sleep for 2 to 3 hours per night after taking two 3mg meletonin tablets which are time released. I understand your frustration, I'm irritable and am unable to interact "normally" with my family and friends due to being exhausted all of the time. If you find out anything, please keep us updated, Someone must have the answer or at least an idea for diagnosis and for treatment. • Hey, sorry to hear you're going through the same ***l as me.I basically gave up after the thyroid disorder came back negative, and have just said eff it and am living life the best I can. Who even knows what I have anymore or what symptoms are from what, no test has came back positive, and besides a sinus infection which I treated with amoxocilin, I haven't taken any antibiotics (stopped taking doxycycline a month and a half or so ago after taking it for over a year).. there have been weeks where my swollen node could barely be felt, and it seemed like it was staying down for a while, but I'm typing this now because it's large and in-charge once again although I haven't changed any dietary or lifestyle habits that I know of. The one interesting turn of events which made me laugh is that my mother got diagnosed with lyme disease around a month ago, so she definitely didn't get it when I did (keep in mind I'm never in nature), and she began IV treatment and is currently doing that so we'll see how that goes. It's almost laughable (but not really) how many sleeping pills I've taken since my symptoms started and it's likely that the acetaminophen and what have you in them will do more damage to me than whatever I have will, but it's a vicious cycle because I literally will lie in bed for HOURS growing more and more awake if I try to go to sleep anywhere near sober. You would think there had to be some diagnosis, some treatment, SOMETHING, but the best I got out of that was getting my neck cut open and biopsied for no reason, and one of the 30 doctors I went to telling me I just need to get more exercise and sleep (thanks for nothing). I've tested positive for lyme, then negative, then slightly positive, and the past couple times have been negative but I havent been tested in a couple months because I'm really just trying to live my life at this point and not look back at my college years as me being a plague victim.. so I take what I have to take to get me through it and that's what I'll be doing till it magically goes away or some breakthrough study shows that I have some crazy **s disease that can be treated with witchcraft (that's really where my mind is at this point) and if I die earlier so be it, it's not like I don't wake up feeling like **** 28 days a month anywaySorry that I have no updates for you, the only thing I've done is try taking a couple thousand miligrams of vitamin C everyday along with a multivitamin and they have had no noticeable effect. Please respond if youre lucky enough to find a doctor with some answers.

  • Hello there, I have been dealing with poor health for over 3 years now. Many of your simptoms and more. I have been with many doctors and have had many test. Everything comes normal, but I continue to feel bad so I jump to search for alternative medicine. I believe that "systematic candidiasis" might be the reason, but doctors do not believe that healthy people (HIV negative) could develop it. I would recommend to start with "castor oil packs" to clean your lymphatic system, and take couple drops daily of "oil of wild oregano (P73)" to help your immune system. The most important recomendation I would give is to stop taking antibiotics. Please research this online, there are many sites that tells the symptoms.Good luck!Amylonelygirl
