last four months i have an istant severe pain on my upper lip.the pain is like stabing very severe and lasts about 3 seconds.it is repeated many times through the day.sometimes it stops for a week and starts again.i have noticed that after the pain occures my upper lip feel more sensitive.the pain occures on a particular spot on the left upper lip.please help me someone.

  • It could be herpes 1 without the outbreak; you could get a blood test to check for it. It could be something dental, too, or a reaction to dental materials.

  • thank you all for the replies..i dont think is herpes or from the phones because i dont use them a lot.but could leaking from blood vesels cause sush pain?my life has changed.without any warning i feel a sudden pain on my lip like stabbing....

  • can anyone help me if this pain is due to dental issues?when the pain first occured i changed the toothpaste to one for sensitive teeth.but nothing happened.i went to the dentist and she told me that everything was ok with my teeth.so i procced to a regular cleaning to my teeth.but the pain insisted.even when iam sleeping i wake up in pain.and the pain is so hurtful.i went to do a mri.it did not showed anything.i firgot to mention when the pain starter i was taking a very powerful antibiosis which caused me problem with sleeping.thanks in advance

  • It could be the classic form of trigeminal neuralgia. It can be difficult to get the diagnosis because it doesn't show on a blood test or anything like that. Normally it affects older women. It's extremely rare that people younger than 30 is affected, but it can still happend. Go to your dentist, and ask him/her about trigeminal neuralgia.

  • I dont think its herpes. if its a virus infection its more likely herpes zoster which can cause painful prodromal symptoms before it actually is seen. I think you should focus on trigeminal neuralgia, your symptoms are pretty much strait ahead. if it is trigeminal neuralgia, a drug containing carbamazepine may be useful.
