I'm a 24 year old female, non-smoker, non-drinker. Recently I have been having problems with an unusually high heart rate, normally 120-140bpm it has gone all the way up to 160 bpm. I've also been dizzy, lightheaded, with several episodes of near fainting. My blood pressure last time I was at the doctor was 110/80. I've also been experiencing weakness (especially in my right arm) nervousness, anxiety, panic attacks, some fatigue, occasionally a pause between heart beats, a thudding/hard heart beat, and cold/tingling hands and feet. Occasionally I've felt out of breath especially when standing up or with minimal exertion. So far I've had several ECG's which were evaluated by three different doctors and a cardiologist, they all came back at a high heart rate but otherwise normal. I've had chest x-rays, an echocardiogram, a holter monitor, several thyroid tests, and complete blood work ups. So far everything except the holter monitor came back normal. The holter monitor found that my heart rate goes up higher than normal but not extremely high and that i feel dizzy when my heart rate goes up, it also found some irregular beats. The cardiologist said that he couldn't decifer what was causing the tachycardia from the holter monitor and is sending me to a major area hospital for more testing. I've been on Toprol xl 25mg for a couple of weeks, and the pausing between beats and seemingly weak pulse pressure may be from that. Does anyone know what could be causing my symptoms and if the Toprol could cause a weak pulse pressure and arrythmia? Sorry this is so long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I asked a few doctors about my rapid heart rate--palpatations in my 20's and very early 30's. I was blown off each time. I guess I was just a hypochrondiac blond female!!! The symptoms got worse over time. In my teens and 20's the rapid rate, dizziness, shortness of breath, etc. would last only 10 min. max. By my late 30's the symptoms lasted up to--I am not making this up--several hours. Finally at age 41, was having symptoms while at the doctor with one of my daughters--she told our doc about my syptoms. Doc took my pulse--it was hovering around 200. Gee--finally someone believed me that I had a problem!!! Went to a cardiologist did all the tests. Had the 30 day event monitor. Had so many events the first week didn't need to keep it the whole month. I have/had Supra-Ventricular Tacychardia or SVT. It is quite common, so the docs say. Tried the beta blocker meds. YUCK. They slow everything in your body down. I felt like a slug. Eventually had cardiac abalation. Which is a pretty cool thing. The docs thread wires through both upper legs and down through both clavical areas. They find where the problem is exactly in your heart and zap it. It can take up to 6 hours (mine did)--but it works!!! I hope this info helps. Be persistent. Don't let any docs tell you it's all in your head or whatever. I hope you find the reason and the fix for your heart ailment.Good luck,Nancy BrownPS--my youngest daughter who is 18, has recently developed the same symptoms. She is now wearing the event monitor. Turns out SVT is very often seen in families.

  • Hello everyone... I wrote on another forum about my panic and anexiety. But now I am having these other problems. My heart rate has been around 97-112 for while now. My BP is hoovering around 104-115 over the 60s. I find my inside are constantly trembling. Like if a cat lays near you and you can feel it purring...the shakey kind of feeling....(not sure that was a good example...) but my whole insides feel tense and shakey all the time, I feel short of breath, fast heart rate, sometime it skips and catches me off guard and scares me. But Ihave noticed shaking....severs quick jerks while i sleep and sometimes they wake me up. The kind of ***k like where you dream your falling off a cliff and you ***k and wake up...but myhusband says i have them alot while im sleeping and most of the time, i dont wake up. sometimes they are just little muscle jerks...leg, shoulder, arm hand... I dont feel the alot during the day but occasionaly. and i dont hae the bad jerks during the day . I am scared to death...is it from such anexiety from so many problems in my life...my mother dying in march, my son killed in 2003, and so much more...??? RIght now im shaking as i write this. I know I have tachacardia, PVCS, and occasional atrial fib, But these symptoms are every day now and it is making me so tired.....Please help

  • I urge anyone with heart palpitations or tachycardia with anxiety to try acupuncture...this form of Chinese medicine is extremely effective, and is perfect for the person who has NO answers from their western doctors. Chinese medicine and acupuncture help to get the body back in balance and I've seen amazing results with my patients (I am a Doctor of Oriental Medicine). :)
