My husband has lost over 20 lbs. in the last 2 months. He says overall he feels fine but has no appetite and when he eats a few bites he feels "stuffed." He went to the doctor and they ran tests, that came back fine except his Estein Barr levels were very high, but negative for mono. He occassionally complains of pain in his lower back and pain in his neck (lymph nodes). I am really worried about the weight loss. What type of tests or scans should we be doing to rule out any type of cancer, etc.?

  • Wow...that kind of weight loss really is concerning, I agree with you. And the high Epstein Barr level is strange. I don't know exactly what kind of tests you should be doing, but I will say that if this doctor doesn't get on it fast, that you find a new doctor, at least for a second opinion. How is your husband's weight generally? Overweight, normal, thin? Has losing 20 pounds pushed him into too thin, or not? It does make a difference...some people can lose a lot when they are sick, if they have a lot to lose, but if someone who doesn't have it to lose is losing weight, that is much more concerning. Also, how old is he? Losing weight under the age of 50 isn't as worrisome as over 70, but of course, it depends on the reason for losing the weight.Shula
