I need some emotional support from anyone who has experienced what I have been going through. For over 12 years I have developed a rash whenever I get sick. It's totally debilitating and puts me in bed for several days. Two weeks ago I got a sinus infection, then got the rash. The rash went away but I have been bedridden ever since. I'm extremely weak and exhausted, have a stiff neck, feel fluish though no fever and am now getting depressed and fearful. I have never been in bed sick for more than 4 days in my life and feel like I will never get well again. I went to 2 rheumatologists who sent out extensive bloodwork to try to figure out what is wrong with me. They think I have some sort of autoimmune disorder but don't know which one. I don't have any stiffness of the joints. Has anyone had similar symptons and gotten better? Will I ever feel like myself again?

  • I need for you to tell me whether there is always a prodrome, or other symptoms, that appear prior to the development of the rash? Where is the rash appearing and what are the characteristics? Is it painful to the touch? Does it blanche when you press on areas that the rash is located? Does the rash appear like vescicles, looking like they're fluid-filled? If you can be far more specific about the rash and any other symptoms that appear, whether you think them related or not, I can offer some better direction. Best regards, J Cottle, MD

  • Whenever I get sick - whether with a sinus infection, bronchitis or some other typical illness, after about 3 days I develop a rash. This rash is smooth to the touch with no blisters and only appears on my torso. It goes from my groin to my neck and sometimes spreads to my back. No arms or legs at all. It looks like a bright red sunburn that is not evenly distributed. Sometimes I also get a purplish red face too - horizontal across my cheekbones, under my eyes. The rash usually lasts 3-4 days. In the past my doctors have told me that I was allergic to the antibiotics that I was taking so they now say I'm allergic to sulfa, celaphosporins, fluroquinolones and I had a skin ****k test that says I am. But the rash now appears before I even start any antibiotics. The tests I have had done that are negative are: lyme and mono. I'm waiting for bloodwork from a rheumatologist who thinks it might be an autoimmune disorder. Now my biggest complaint is general body weakness, buzzing head, tinnitus, numb tongue, wobbly legs, skin feels like I have the flu (sensitive, shakey). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Sounds like lupus - which is an autoimmune diseaseRash, fatigue, easy to get sick and female are all hallmarks of lupus. A rash across the cheekbones and bridge of nose is very common (butterfly rash).Your doctor should be able to diagnose and treat you.
