  • Once I got a lot of ulcers in my throat, doctors put me on prednisone (which really sucks to be on but is effective). It's a steriod, there are a lot of side effects, and you can't just stop taking it (you need to wean off of it). Does your dad also get lots of mouth sores?

  • You might try administering zinc to him. whenever the word ulcer comes up, zinc should be considered as a potential remedy. it can cure stomach ulcers and heal ulcerated skin. For instance, zinc is a major component of healing ointments for burn victims. According to the Nutrition Almanac (which is an excellent sourcebook on nutrition):"Low levels have been found those with esophagael and bronchogenic cancer.... Zinc deficiency can cause...prolonged healing of wounds....Gastric ulcers may be healed with the use of this mineral...zinc may contribute to the rapid healing of internal wounds (including ulcers) and external wounds."One other thing to note, zinc deficiency can also cause "loss of normal taste sensitivity, poor appetite". Taking zinc could improve his taste and appetite. It should also be noted that the elderly are often deficient in zinc.Good luck!

  • I use to have probs with mouth ulcers and at times would get them in my throat...(when I would have them in my throat it would always be 2 or 3 in large areas and the pain would be absolutely unbearable). I began taking an herbal vitamin called "paud de arko"...that may be misspelled but if you ask the pharmacist about it he or she should know. Anyhow, cleared up ulcers and before long I quit having the mouth and throat ulcers altogether. This is a preventive medicine and will not make them go away if you already have them but definately helps to prevent them.Hope this helps your dad out! Good luck...

  • I have had similar problems leaving swallowing a pain filled experience. I have no idea if it is the same thing but I discovered that gargling with hydrogen peroxide eased the pain slightly everytime I used it (hence I gargled with the stuff every 1/2 hour the first day). They seemed to clear up within 2-3 days after a lot of gargling. Good Luck.

  • Hi, i have an ulcerated throat myself at the moment.A lot of the time it is due to antibiotics which cause yeast infections, and lower immune systems which then result in ulcers, i would finish the course of antibiotics and stay off them about a week and see how that goes. also gargle with corosodrly (that could be spelled wrong) It is amazing, it dont hurt and it cures ulcers that it touches in a matter of days. good luck for you and your dad. Guess what he still got it. I also suffer from these. I get them in my eustacian(sp?) tubes (the tubes between my throat and ears, and also on the back of my throat. Locate what makes them appear. In my case I cannot eat walnuts unless roasted and then in very limited quantities, or acidic things like oranges, excessive amounts of fresh tomatoes, etc... It's well worth the sacrafice to not have these, but when I do get them I gargle with very hot salt water. Tilt your head back and gargle to bubble the water up into the tubes as far as possible this seems to make them go away the fastest of anything else I've tried. Good Luck!
