I've had trouble starting to urinate for a while now (almost a year). I'm only 20 years old. I seem to take a while to start, but once I do, everything seems to go fine. I have no pain or anything, it just wont start and it's really uncomfortable. I've taken cipro, but it hasn't been entirely helpful. A couple days after I had stopped taking the cipro, I was able to start urinating within seconds. However, this only lasted for less than a week and I was back to waiting minutes before I could urinate. Someone please help.

  • I'm not a doctor, but as far as I know, this is clearly a prostitis problem. Go with your doctor.Good luck !

  • Look, there could be many causes of your trouble urinating. It may not necessarily be prostatitis. The possible causes may range from an infection, to blockage of the urethra, herniated disk in your back causing nerve problems, blood clots, enlarged prostate and some medications, both OTC and prescription. The most common drugs that would cause such troubles are ephedrine , pseudoephedrine and phenylpropanolamine and antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl, Compoz, Nytol, Sominex) and chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton, Allergy 8 Hr) but also some older antidepressants that can relax the bladder too much and cause urination problems.Urinary infections can cause inflammation and swelling and compress urethra causing inability to urinate. However, STD too such as herpes can cause troubles. Herpes may interfere with the nerves in the pelvic area, disabling you from urination. Bladder polyps or hemorrhoid surgery can too cause urinary troubles as well as tumors, so I would suggest you made an appointment with your doctor if you haven't already. Many youngsters have the same problem as you do.
