Hello, I have gone to see another doctor today to ask about what may be wrong with me, and he didnt want to do anything. After pressing farther, he gave me a perscription to have a full general blood test done, and he will be passing my case onto a medical intern to handle, but that could take up to a month to get started! Maybe there is a doctor or two out there that wouldnt mind lending their opinion. Im just looking for some outside imput please.

I am an 18 year old male. I am in the Police Foundations program at College, usually eat 4-5 smaller meals a day, get 8 hours of sleep a night, and enjoy a life with very little stress. I live at home, have good hygene practices, and just got the highest mark on an english paper today.

But... I have a problem. One that has been somewhat lingering for the past 4 or so months. Some medical history:
I had mononeuculosis with double pneumonia 2 years ago (almost exactly). I went to Costa Rica for 3 weeks beginning of august this year. Fun times. It may be relavent?

Around 4 months ago, I went to the doctor because I was sleeping all afternoon, constantly tired and irritable (this started happening gradually, I went from biking 3+hours a day to nil because I was so tired). Went for a blood test, had low iron (dont remember how low). Went on a course of perscrip. iron pills for 3 months. During 3rd month on percrip, I went to Costa Rica for 1 month travels (aug, see above). Got back, was still tired after pill course. took follow-up blood test, to see if my iron came up. He said it was normal now. I mentioned the continuing problem to my doctor two weeks ago, he said I should take 2x multivitamin tablets a day. because popping pills solves everything, apparently...

So, Im taking the pills. Feel quite a bit better (went from 50% to maybe 65-75%), but still dont feel energized at ALL to go work out (which I love and NEED for my program!). I am also losing concentration, I have papers due this week I havent even started. I would rather sleep, and cant stay motivated.

Now, I feel that if I have sugar, I plummet HARD afterwards. EVEN after a meal. Like, if I have a large dish of pasta and veggies, then an hour later have 3 cookies, within the hour I will feel exhausted and drained, as if I have been awake for 24 hours.

I move in and out of a drowsy state all day. Even today, I woke up after 9 solid hours of sleep, within an hour, it felt like a weight was on my chest, my head hurt a bit, and I felt like I havent slept in two days (I had a solid sleep, didnt wake up once...). I skipped class because I felt so irritable and mentally and physically exhausted, if I wanted to, I could have fallen asleep this afternoon. I am drinking lots of water, but randomly may feel thirsty. I have taken this sugar thing into account, and have tried to eat the most ballanced diet I can. It doesnt matter.

Is there anything I should do that could identify what is wrong with me? about my previous case of mono, could this be a relapse? Could this have to do with my vitamins, and it will just take a while to get them back up (doubtful...)? Could it be something else entirely?

Thank you for reading this, greatly appriciated!

Dan

p.s. even if you aren't a doctor, but could offer some advice, it would be appricated.

p.p.s. I am a healthy 18-almost-19 year old. I shouldn't feel like I am incapacitated!

It was actually good in a way because atleast I knew that the pain was real.....all day everyday I feel like someone beat me with a baseball bat and I stay exausted as well. I hope that you will go to a doctor (genetic doc) and get diagnosed.

I am a healthy 18-almost-19 year old. I shouldn't feel like I am incapacitated!Wow, this is exactly the same thing that is happening to me. I have intense fatigue and drowsiness allday everyday. I sleep for 10+ hours and never wake up refeshed. I have other symtpoms as well such as irritablilty, brain fog, lack of motivatation and general lack of interest in things I used to find enjoyable. I have been tested for thyroid, b12 deficiency, hypoglycemia and had an MRI which all turned checked out fine. I have however tested positive for candida antigens and have a very low DHEA count for someone my age (24 year old male). It is possible I have adrenal hypofunction too. Make sure the doc does bloods for your endo system (testosterone, cortisol, dhea etc) to get a endocrine condition ruled out. also look at candida.could you email me with anything you find as it would be of great interest for me to get tested also, my email is vynil_junkey@hotmail.com.

  • HiI'm from England. We call mono gladular fever (the kissing disease). Some people develop ME - Myaelgic Ecephalitis (it used to be known as CFS - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) after getting the illness and recovered from it. To determine this a number of blood tests will be taken and if they come back stating that there is nothing abnormal then your fatigue could be down to this condition. I don't know if I have spelt it right but if you google ME or CFS then it will give you some more information. If it is this, sometimes you'll great and other times you'll need relax and plenty of extra sleep. Hope this helps.Angel

In my case I developed CFS 11 yrs after having severe EBV (i was seriously sick with it for 10 weeks, passing out with it etc). Anyone who has an issue with waking up still tired without reason, after a good nights sleep should consider things like CFS (and sleep apnea).
