A little over 6 years ago I was preganant with my daughter when I began having scary symptoms while driving to work. I started feeling very disoriented and my vision was basically reduced to, what I would describe as tunnel vision. Once I got to work, my arms, hands and face became numb and was slurring my speech when talking to co workers. I went to the hospital, where I stayed for about 5 days. I'm assuming I was there that long because I was pregnant. After a few, hours I seemed to be doing better. They ran several tests on me to for seizures, heart problems (sonograms and bubble tests) etc...After 5 days they were stumped and sent me home. About a 8 months later I had another incident with the same symptoms, but this time they only lasted about 10 minutes. Then about a year and half after that incident it happened again. I woke up one morning and was doing dishes and noticed my face and hand go numb. So I went to sit down and type an email because I figured it would pass like the rest did. While typing this email, I realized what I was typing was giberish. I would delete and start over, but just couldn't get it right. I ended up sending the email and when I read it after the symptoms had passed, it made absolutely no sense. I have had several minor incidents the last few years but nothing major. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? I have tried several times to get my medical records from the hospital with no avail just to see what the actual discharge paperwork states. Thanks in advance for any insight!

  • My first thought is Acebutolol Hydrochloride - Teratogenic Agent. However, if you were pregnant at the time, Digoxin - Teratogenic Agent is much more likely. But, reading about the tunnel vision, I'm almost positive that you suffered Pregnancy toxemia /hypertension. eclampsia is a condition that typically starts after the 20th week of pregnancy and is related to increased blood pressure and protein in the mother's urine. Preeclampsia is the development of high blood pressure, excess protein in the urine and swelling during pregnancy. Your symptoms also fit Essential hypertension. Essential hypertension is a type of hypertension that has no detectable cause. With this, you will see elevated blood pressure. Treatment varies depending on factors such as severity of symptoms and the presence of exacerbating factors. Left untreated long enough, Essential hypertension will put you into a coma. But, Eclampsia is much more likely. Any type of high blood pressure occuring during pregnancy is a type of "gestational hypertension".
