Various symptoms experienced over the last 10 days which seem to come and go including a feeling of a lump in my throat when I swallow (this sensation moves around and is not fixed to one site); an irritation which makes me wheeze and cough if I take a deep breath; a sensation as if I had burnt my tongue - which I have not - yet with no pain, just sensitivity; a really offensive taste/smell at times at the back of my throat. No soreness, aches or pains just an uncomfortable 'awareness' of unusual sensations.

  • Have you been tested for infection?

  • Thanks for the response. I already knew that it was unlikely to be an infection - no glandular involvement or soreness. Since posting on here I have done more searches and seem to have found the answer - globus. Everything fitted with other people's description of their symptoms of this and as soon as I realised what it was and how common, the symptoms began to subside immediately. I thought I has experienced the gamut of anxiety syndromes but obviously not.

  • Could be anxiety-- that's the most common reason.

  • I agree, surely anything physiologically amiss would not come and go so arbitrarily.

  • could be thyroid...not sure..

  • Me, too. Thyroid. I had a burning tongue thing with my thryoid problem...you may be in the beginning stages or not yet recognize other symptoms of thryoid problems...sometimes they are vague at first and we ignor them. You can do a search and get a list of the symptoms and see if you match.

  • Look up tonsillar debris. That might account for the taste. A lot of posters on this board have discussed this.
