Alright I'm a 19 year old male and this problem just recently occurred about a week ago. I just came back from the Emergency Room and the doctor their couldn't see anything couldn't feel anything what so ever and told me to contact a ear/nose/throat doctor tomorrow. But this even scares me more what could it be????? Heres the best of my description, im perfectly fine no problems what so ever i do not feel sick what so ever, im as healthy as i can be (atleast i think) now the only time this problem occurs is when i swallow, thats it.. it's not a sore throat.. its def not strep it's just THERE when i swallow. It doesn't hurt i can eat and drink just fine... but it is just purely annoying after 5 days any home remedies or solutions? Or any ideas what it could be?

  • First of all, relax. I think what you have is called globus. There is a relationship between this feeling and certain emotional moods. Try to keep a diary of symptoms and your mood. This is not to say that it is a mental disorder, but it CAN be effected by emotions. Secondly, globus can be a symptom of other more serious diseases (angioedema, {can't remember who has that on this board}). Maybe the Magic mouthwash would work. Read up on it, now you have a name for it. Go to the ENT doc as recommended. Fearing an unknown disease would only make globus worse.

  • Hi,I had a similar sensation in my throat that there was something there and felt like I needed to keep swallowing. I would wake up at night choking, but nothing was there. After lots of research, I read that a low magnesium level in your body will give this symptom. I started on Magnesium suppliments and the symptoms went away. It is important to do a Calcium/Magnesium suppliment together for best absorption. A quality health food store would be a good place to inquire. Do you drink alot of soda? I found out that any of the cola drinks will deplete your body of magnesium. Any soda that has phosphates will do this. Hope this helps.

  • I had the same thing. I went to the emergency room cause I felt like there was a lump in my throat. The Drs looked at me like I was crazy and ran all the tests and all came back negative. My throat hurt when I swallowed but I could eat drink etc. fine. It was not a sore throat. It was lower. Almost like I felt like I had an adams apple. I did find out that I had gurd. That is when food comes back up the throat and burns your esophogus. I never even felt anything. Never thought I had any throat problems. My doctor put me on Nexium and after about a month I was brand new. I always take it now. Let me know if you figure it out and this helps you.

  • I am a very young 52 year old lady who started with a weird sensation in the right side of my throat as if i had got a lump or food stuck.Sometimes it felt as if i had a hair ball and wanted to put my fingers down my throat to pull it out.It is now all over my throat specially my adams apple area, it feels swollen and is quite tender to touch. sometimes i feel as if i am going to choke and i am constantly swallowing. My throat seems to stick together when i am playing badminton.I have had this for 9 weeks now and it is making me feel so low, nothing seems to make it better and i keep eating bulky things to convince myself that my throat is not closing up. The hospital have put me on omeprazole incase it is reflux, one dr said my epiglotis was mishapen another said she cud see a swollen gland on my tongue and the third more senior doctor said he cud see nothing. Who the ***l is right?????????Am i going crazy or will this go in its own time. i have just had an MR scan so i will hopefully know if there is anything physical there. I hope they dont say it isin my mind cos it feels very real to me.\it is making me very tearful and unable to concentrate on anything which really is not like me. Can anyone help????????Alright I'm a 19 year old male and this problem just recently occurred about a week ago. • Definitely see an ear-nose-throat doctor (ENT) and have a laryngoscopy. This is when a camera is put down your nose into your throat to see what is going on. The most common reason for swelling in the throat is indeed reflux, but most of the time drugs like omeprezole don't help "extraesophageal" (meaning outside the esophagus) reflux. Other reasons are scarier. Have them look at you for hereditary angioedema.
