3 years ago I woke up one morning and my mouth was filled with thick slimy saliva. Because of the excess amount I had to use cotton batten around my gums and teeth to absorb it.
over the years the saliva thickened and and at present my mouth has become completely dry and this saliva is now stuck like glue to my teeth and gums.
Is there anyone out there that has this or knows anything.

thanks,
janet

  • Do you snore while sleeping? Have you noticed that you wake up trying to catch a breath or coughing? Other symptoms can be found at http://www.thesleepsite.com/If so you may have sleep apnea. It can cause that symptom especially if you sleep with your mouth open. It will dry out your secretions. Sleep apnea dries out your secretions.

  • Certain disease states associated with thickening of the saliva also predispose to stone formation. There are some disorders where the immune system attacks the salivary glands, thus causing a thicker form of saliva. This would include sicca syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, lupus, and other forms of mixed connective tissue disease. In its extreme presentation autoimmune salivary gland disease is associated with significant dental caries and cyst formation and hypertrophy of the salivary glands.Hope this helps.
