I have had a chronic sore throat, but it has been for about a year now.It got to the point where even oxycodone didnt really help & then I got scared. They did find severe candida esophagitis...the yeast infection in the esophagus..& they treated me,but it has only helped a little.I have also been treated for acid reflux with 3 diff meds for about 3 mos..it helps a little......ANy suggestions anyone has would be so much appreciated....I am in a lot of pain & my ENT doctor & gastroenterologist & family doctor are somewhat at a loss & I am now being treated for depression & on disability from work & terrrified that I will lose my job,b/c I'm a single mother. My family doctor now wants me to get tested for hiv & diabetes & some other things.....I AM SO DESPERATE! I'm now on doc's orders not to talk & this is affecting my life so much,HELP?

  • I can truly sympathize with you. I keep getting sore throats that are unbearable and all the Dr. does is test for strep, which usually comes up negative, and then prescribe Oxycodone for the pain. I'm on my 3rd sore throat this year and I too have missed a lot of work. I'm going to insist they test me for Mono because people just shouldn't have to suffer like this. The Oxycodone no longer works and I'm getting very frustrated with these highly paid doctors that don't give a crap. You are your own best advocate. Go get a different opinion from an ear, nose and throat specialist and have them test you for Mono, Tonsilitis and any other disease that could cause the sore throat. I understand what you're going through and I wish you the best.

  • Make a drastic diet change. Eliminate all sugar, white flour, milk, and most sweet things. Use a sugar substitute. Candida can't grow out of control without these fuels. There is a book called "The Yeast Connection." Ask your local library to get a copy for you to borrow. Also, try lactobacillus. You can buy it in most drug stores, or better still, eat sugar free yogurt or mix plain yogurt with fresh fruit. Ths will help balance your gut flora, i.e. the "good" bacteria that fights candida.

Like REALLY bad throat pain that hurts to talk, swallow or almost anything? Thank you!!

I'm now on doc's orders not to talk & this is affecting my life so much,HELP?Based upon the information given, the best direction to go in is HIV.However, if you are sure you haven't had exposure, I do have a great alternate theory.Candida Esophagitis is most commonly found in patients with a weak immune system. But upon some research into literature, along with your chronic symptoms, I believe I might have a diagnosis for you to look into.Based upon your gender, age, chronic throat pain, pain while talking, swallowing, or pretty much any use of your throat, I believe you have Sjogren's Syndrome. As a result of Sjogren's Syndrome drying out your throat, I believe you had the perfect conditions for Candida Esophagitis, which most commonly manifests itself in immunocompromised patients (You should still have an HIV test, though). Narcotics commonly have dry mouth as a side effect, and this is probably why they are not helping. Please have your physician order the following tests:ANA (Anti-Nuclear Antibodies)RF (Rheumatoid Factor)SSA (Ro), SSB (La) antibodiesESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)IGs (Immunoglobulins)If the previous tests come back with any abnormalities, the following tests will aid you in the definitive diagnosis:Salivary Flow testSalivary scintigraphySalivary gland biopsy (from lower lip)I'm going to assume that since you haven't seen a Rheumatologist, you haven't had the majority of those tests done. If you have, please post the results.I hope you feel better.

  • Hello sorry to hear of your pain. I had sore throat for nearly 2 years , had all the tests done all negative until I figured it out all by myself. I know have become very allergic to preservativesin recent years so I try to avoid eating anything with preservatives in them or I get a bad migraine however I did not know that nearly everything else we use contain preservatives not neccesarily food. I found out that perfume has preservatives too, I do put that around my neck, so since I stopped using a particular one from Avon which I remember buying about 2 years ago when the mystery sore throat started , the symptoms disappeared. What a revelation and a relief. I hope this info helps you too.RitaI have had a chronic sore throat, but it has been for about a year now.It got to the point where even oxycodone didnt really help & then I got scared.
