My 14 year old son had 2 falls w/ subsequent distal thigh pain (just above the knee). A MRI of the knee revealed a bone bruse. The distal thigh pain continued and eventually my son was diagnosed w/ SCFE. He had a hip pinning. The pin backed out and a second operation was required. That pin was removed and 2 new ones put in. In addition, he had an osteoplasty which allowed for near total range of motion at the hip. The pain in his thigh as continued and worsened. He has been on crutches for 11 months and still can not bear full weight due to the pain in his thigh (not his hip). He has been to two ortho's and has had CT scans of the hip. Both have shared that the structure of the hip etc. looks good and there is nothing they can do. A new CT scan of the knee shows no abnormalities. A new diagnosis of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome has been given. My son is going to a pain specialist and is taking multiple medications and has had 3 parasympathetic nerve blocks. The nerve blocks have given him relief for 8, 6 and 2 hours. He's has had PT, has a IFC unit etc. and the pain continues to worsen. I'm convinced that there are other issues (physiologically or neurologically). I'm looking for any help, ideas, referrals etc.
