6 weeks ago when I had a couple of drinks my face went very hot and very red, my heart was beating very fast and the hospital said I had tachycardia and that i probably drank too much that day. Fair enough.
I did not have anything else to drink until 3 days ago when i had one bottle on blue wkd.
The same started to happen again but not as bad this time.
(Areas under my eyes were bright red and hot and my heart was beating a lot faster then it should do), all this for one beer.

Please can you advise what you think might be happening to me?

  • Sounds like an allergy to me. Get tested.

  • more likely to be an atrial dysrhythmia, such as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or supraventricular tachycardia- in fact either of those would account for your symptoms entirely. You could be allergic to booze, but the sort of allergic reaction that would give you palpitations and flushing would generally cause a wheeze and swelling of your lips

  • I vote allergy myself. I am allergic to apples and I get the fast heartbeat and flushing. I only get the swollen lips sometimes. The first symptom I get is always the heart beat thing. I would say you are allergic to something in what you are drinking.

  • I sometimes have a similar reaction to certain alcohol. I'm not sure what it is, but one of my friends had the same problem. I was told it was allergy related. I found out that for some reason Bud Light does not do it to me ever and then other beers do. I had a couple "close calls" where I pushed the envelope a little when experiencing the problems - I wouldn't recommend doing that, I felt like I was going to die a couple times. Get some good fresh air and relax and it should help bring your heart rate down.....but I wouldn't push it with the alcohol. Drink a glass of cold water and take it easy. Usually I could work out of the problem, but if I couldn't I just learned to cut myself off from drinking. I'm not positive that you have the same problem, but it sounds similar and I had it bad for a long time....so it probably isn't going anywhere.

  • Did you experience any hot flashes, lightheadedness, dizziness, or referred pain deep below the shoulder blades? If so, this could be a case of intermittent biliary colic or a gallstone blocking the bile duct.
