I am a 40 year old white female. I am overweight, but active. For the past year I have had a variety of symptoms and seen lots of doctors. No one can tell me what is wrong. My symptoms are as follows: Dizziness (like rocking on a boat), mild nausea, tingling in both hands, swollen angles (right one significating worse), area under my right eye is puffy almost all the time, my right ear feels closed off sometimes, terrible water retention, slight numbness in the right side of my face and head sometimes.

While these might seem like mild symptoms after a year of feeling like this daily, I feel like I am going to lose my mind! I seriously restrict sodium intake, but it does not help.

PLEASE HELP!

Nancy

  • Two ideas for those symptoms commonly overlooked: Age 40 female: like me (close!) - research perimenopause...no you are not too young. Also very common: thryoid problems. research this as well. Two great sites: Perimenopause: www.power-surge.com (non commercial) Thryoid: Mary Shomon's thryoid site and forum at About.com Joan

  • If you're on the short side you may have Turner Syndrome. Swelling of the ankles and ear problems are common to this: www.turnersyndrome.org

Nancy Nancy, I've had a great deal of issues with Doctors so I'm not a big fan of current modern medicine. I think Doctors are alot less involved and attentive than they should be. That being said- what have you been tested for thus far? What doctors have you seen? Have you seen a nerologist? Why are you restricting your sodium intake? Is this your own decision because of water retention or because you were told to? Are you on any medications? Do your medications cause these symptoms? You might think it's silly- but some medications can cause symptoms like you describe.. not only that, sometimes medicines cause the symptoms you seek to eliminate. If you have any questions on meds or general health, please feel free to ask me. I am a Certified Pharmacy Tech and I have access to Pharmacists and before I fell ill was getting a degree in healthcare. I know it's difficult when you don't know- I'm in the same boat myself. The best thing you can do is keep informed about what is going on.
