  • Hi, Might not be rheumatoid but sounds like arthritis to me, your symptoms are exactly the same as my husband's - swollen/painful knees - he uses an ice spray for the pain, which he get from the chemist and swears by. He has to lie down to put his socks on because he gets so stiff some days, the joints of his fingers often give him pain and he has trouble kneeling down on bad days. His mum had rheumatoid arthritis which is an auto immune problem - self attacking self. Can't you get them to do more blood tests? for arthritis, auto immune? A diagnosis would help to deal with the problem. p.s. hubby also takes glucosamine sulphate and other stuff to help joints.:)

  • Thanks for reply. Iv been tested for the rheumatoid that came back negative, i was shocked about that because i really thought it was, my prob is mostly my fingers, and it gets worse as day goes on, also im always so tierd, im tierd of going to the doctors because im sure they think i make it up, although you can clearly see the swelling. I just want to know what is wrong with me.

  • Hi, I've been checking out Medline plus for swollen fingers/joints and it mentioned Ankylosing spondylitis, and Chronic gouty arthtitis, a disease involving uric acid deposits in the joints - hands feet and legs you can get a blood test for it, you can also get a synovial fluid analysis i.e. joint fluid analysis which is a group of tests examining joint fluid also done by blood test. Doctors are nothing special they're just a bunch of practitioners practising on 'us' don't give up and keep onto them until they do their job and get you a diagnosis. If I had given up when my son had cancer he'd have been dead now instead of treated and in remission, fight for your rights good luck and let me know how you get on:)

  • You might also want to get yourself checked out for Hypothyroidism. This may already have been checked out in your previous blood tests.

  • Hi,degenerative arthritis is a blanket term for "We don't know." When one exhibits arthritic symptoms but RA is neg. they will come down to calling it degenerative. I have it throughout my entire body mostly finger joints. However, yours is worse as the day goes on which is not typical of arthritis. Usually it is worse in the morning. Have they done a bone scan of your fingers? MRI? Is there fluid in your finger joints or is it the bones themselves. Doctors seem to think that we imagine things even when it is visible. I will never understand that. I think that many, many things today are autoimmune related as a reaction to something you either came in contact with or ate. I got mine from MRSA from a colonoscopy which my body then tried to fight off and it cause my joints and my tendons to swell. IT is horrible pain. I wish you much luck. Thanks for reply.
