I woke up with an extremely swollen right, index finger this AM. Went to the Dr. he sad he is stumped as it is NOT hot, doesn't hurt (except for the discomfort of edema) and said, maybe I injured it. Maybe an infection, BUT it is not how or red AT ALL! It is cold.
3 days ago, I did make a fist and hit something, however, it never swelled, never hurt AT ALL, until this AM. I have a "full sensation" in my right arm once in a while as well.
Any suggestions for a second opinion? Questions I can ask, ideas to give them to search for something else. Other conditions or diseases I can search the internet for? It is about 3 x its normal size and my knuckle is starting to get sore.
ps, xrays taken and all is okay. He sent me home with an antibiotic and anti-inflamatory.

  • Is your finger swollen or is it edema.Edema is more when you have a build-up of fluid and therby causes it to swell. You can tell this when you push on it your finger should leave somewhat of a pitting there. If it is swelling from trauma there should not be any pitting edema present. The pain in your finger possible could be gout from what I gather from your post.
