HI, I am paraplegic and had a supra pubic catheter put in a lil over 4 months ago by a urologist at Hopkins. I contracted MRSA and pseudomonas while in there which has been keeping the site from healing. My doctor insisted that the infection was contained and did not need to be treated. Since then I had a small open wound that was quite tiny until the infections entered that and then it got bigger. A home health nurse took a culture which showed both infections.
Luckily, the MRSA was able to be treated by pill but my general phusician said that the pseudomonas would need to be treated by IV and wasn't able to dose it. We were able to treat it with Dakins solution in the wound, however the infection is still in my bladder. My Urologist is basically refusing to treat it. I have been septic before and it is no fun. I'm still having to change the bandage dail around the supra pubic site and it should of been long healed by now.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Is there another type of doctor that I may not be able to think of that I should see to get this treated. I'm losing faith and on the verge of tears all of the time because of this. It's embarrassing. I started seeing someone and don't want to be intimate b/c of the odor of the infection. It's bad enough that the tube is there to begin with. I got the surgery to make my life easier and it's quite the opposite.
I have had osteomyelitis in my spinal column before. Is there anyway the pseudomonas can affect my bones or blood stream?
Any advice would be greatly appreciate it.
