I went to Thailand last summer (aug 2011) and became ill whilst I was away.

Main symptoms :
Shortness of breath
Rapid, strong heart rate
Spotted Rash on backside
Sore throat

Doctors struggled to diagnose the illness and after months of blood tests, chest X-rays and heart recordings I was diagnosed with riketssia and scrub typhus. I received antibiotics but didn't feel better. One year later I am still suffering many of the symptoms and docs don't seem to care! How can I get better? Any suggestions of other infections it may be? I am sick of feeling crappy!

  • This may be a shot in the dark but did you get checked for lyme disease? Just a guess

  • Can you ask for a referral to a specialist in tropical medicine? This website offers a good overview of common tropical diseases. http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Diagnosing-The-Tropical-Traveller.htmDid your doctor try another round of the antibiotics? Perhaps the first round was insufficient given which bug you have.
