Sudden onset of sleep walking

I don't know what to call it besides sleep walking. About a month ago I woke up to find a small amount of salad dressing in a bowl on the counter. I live alone so no one else could have done it. Earlier this week I remember waking up feeling hungry. I remember going to the kitchen to get some peanut butter. The next thing I remember is I had sprayed PAM on a knife and dipped it in the peanut butter. I am awake now because at 2:45 am I called my mother on the phone. I was sitting on the side of the bead and heard her voice calling my name , realized the phone was in my hand and that woke me up enough to realize I had called her in the middle of the night ! This is starting to scare me.
The only other symptom I am having is some day sweats but mostly night sweats. I have attributed that to menopause but who knows?
I have high deductible health insurance and can't afford to get in debt for a bunch of tests. I am hoping someone has heard of this before and might be able to give me an idea what might be wrong.
The only change I can think of recently is I started drinking diet soda for the past 2 months.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

  • i sympathize as i know just how disturbing this kind of thing is. i used to sleep walk and do things in my sleep when i was a teen (thank God i seem to have grown out of it and havent had an incident of it in 20 years). Teen=hormonal caused?? i once woke up to find myself NAKED OUTSIDE at the FRONT of my home, unlocking my front door, fortunately it was early hrs of morning when no one was about. (After that incident i had my boyfriend HIDE the keys when we went to bed). Even more unsettling with this incident, i'd dreamed i'd walked all about my local town. On another occassion i woke up to find myself in kitchen standing, holding a mug and pouring BOILING water into it, i was making myself a hot drink. With waking up at that very moment, i nearly dropped the mug half full of boiling water all over me (along with jug)........ My daughter a few years ago (interestingly she was at same age as i was when i used to have it happen), while asleep (her eyes are open when she has these incidents..one thou knows she's asleep as she wont respond), RAN throu the house and into and hence half throu a glass window (fortunately she didnt go all the way throu as there is a long drop there onto concrete, the ledge and small cupboard in front of the window stopped her from falling throu). She was covered in glass and had little cuts all over her face from the broken window. She has had no dramatic sleep walking incidents since (as far as im aware, she actually hasnt had any more since then.. before that she had several minor sleep walking incidents throu out her teens)............ All i can say is try not to worry... i dont know if my case and my daughters case are typical of this kind of thing but what i can say is our own occurances werent common and have stopped. Maybe the couple of incidents you've had is all you will ever have? From our experiences i do suggest that if you have windows and are high up that a fall would be extremely dangerous.. to put cupboards in front of windows for protection.. just in case. best luck
