  • What country/city does she live in? It sounds like a worm infestation. Get her to a clinic asap.

  • Does she have any other symptoms? If you have access to the Discovery Health channel I would watch Episode 8 of Mystery ER. Especially if your grandmother is fatigued or has other disturbing symptoms. I don't remember the name of this very rare controversial condition but I do remember that many folks with the condition also turn out to have lyme disease. So if grandma could have been exposed to ticks, definitely watch this episode. Looking on my TV schedule the episode is being aired on Saturday. http://health.discovery.com/tv/mystery-er/episode-guide.html

  • My husband has the same exact problem. He is a 43 yo that lives in central TX. The sores are on his fore arm, face and scalp for months. I have seen the white stingy things under a microscope. They are not alive. It started off itching badly. He thought he had poisin ivy. Then they turned into sores and he would pick at them and feel a little releif when the white thing got pulled out. He went to the dr. and they diagnosised it as either staph infection or ring worm. I believe it is ring worm. It fits the discription exactly. He was perscribed a antibiotic and antifungal. He only took the antibiotic. They started to heal but then came right back with in 2 weeks. He has started washing his face 3 times a day with an antibacterial soap and dabing the spots with a clorox clean up wipe. It is crazy but They are almost gone. It seems to get worse if he does not shave his face and bathe everyday and then wash his face multiple times a day. If anyone else has this please shed some light....I don't believe it to be contagious. The rest of the family has not gotten anything and we have not taken any real percautions to not get it.

  • Try a look at info. online re: Morgellons Disease. It's hard to get a dr. to treat. There are support groups and online sites will give you the heads up on where dr's are. My mother has this and was told it was all in her head until we found the syndrom. This site is the symptoms and treatment. arthritis.about.com/b/2006/08/09/morgellons-disease-causes-diagnosis-symptoms-treatment.htm

  • Thank you, I have read everything on Morgellons Disease and do not believe that my husband has this. The only symptom that came close was a hair follicle that looked like it had a white bulb on the end of it. My husbands sore is on his cheek bone and looks like 2 pimples with in a inch of each of each other. He gets 2 on his jaw line and some in the top of his head where he is balding. Since I read in the blogs some of the remedies for Morgellons Disease I think I am going to have him try them. I am going to have him clean the sores with lemon juice and I am going to have him start taking cold showers instead of warm or hot. Today he was out in the sunlight and wind and this seems to have cleared up the sores on his cheek for now. But you can bet that they will be back with in a day or so in the same spots.

  • My husband does not have any other symptoms. We are coming to the conclusion that it is the hair growing out and is an infected hair follicle. He gets the sores on his face and neck area. There is small white thing in the middle of the sore. He has been washing his face frequently and putting idone and putting nystatin on it and that gets it better overnight, then he wakes up they are better by the afternoon they get worse open up and the white thing is in the middle. They are sore and he says they feel like there is pressure in it. So you pull the white thing out with tweezers and it bleeds but feels better. Here is a photo of the one I pulled out today and a 200xz microscopic view of it. They are small as you can see on the tweezer - I put my index finger next to it so you have an idea about the size. But he says that he has pulled ones out that are 3x's that size.

I think I shaved too close and had ingrown hairs or something. They would stay there until I pulled them out with tweezers and it looked exactly like your pictures. Did you ever find out what it was?

  • I have had the exact same problem for over 10 years! I have been pulling white 'swollen fibers' out of sores on my face and forearms all this time. Does anyone have an answer? I am a possible candidate for diabetes, but the last time I checked my blood, I was fine. Please, someone help! These sores are disgusting and annoying. Nevermind the permanent scars.

We have been to 3 dermos for this issue. They have looked at it under the microscope and it is just keritin (skin clumps trying to grow) Well he also go a blood test and found out he has high triglicerides. He did not want to take a RX for it so he went the natural way and is taking perscription strength flax seed and Niacin 500 mg pills 2 times a day. With in a week of taking these his face and arms and head are HEALED! All that is left are the deep scars. This is not the flax seed oil or niacin you get at wallgreens....get it from a doctor it is better quality. And after all this time 2+years no one else has contracted it. We still have no idea what it really is other than an infected hair follicle that gets a clump of skin cells in it and hurts and wants to pop out.

  • just a note, not to throw off track or anything stringy white things may be a kind of puss, this is seen more normally in acne situations, the puss in acne can come out in many forms, hte most comenly thought off with acne and sors is either the completly liquid, or the mostly liquid with a "bunched soild peice" but sometimes it comes out as a "String" this is most notably publisized by the MTV show ******s when one of the "Actors" decided to pop a pimple on camera, to acne sufferes these are known as "tails" and connect the topical goof the acne to the "bunched white" puss or sometimes to nothing. IT often also happens along with "black heads" just thought the white stringy things sounded allot like the more solid version of puss, i am not aware of why the puss is solid like that sometimes, you'd have to ask a doc either way id still ask a doc, it could be somthing much more sever, and even if not, sings of pus, is signs of an infection
