Strange neck pain

I have had increasing pain in the muscles of my throat since a general anesthetic for a D&C in September 2006. It started with feeling stangled when I swallowed and has escalated to a deep ache in my throat, tongue and mouth accompanied by numbness in my tongue and lips. I've had a CAT scan, Xrays, an endoscopy and blood test for Lyme disease, endrocrine disorders, and mono. All showed normal results. I've seen two gastroenterologists, one Ear, Node & Throat, my primary care doc and an emergency room doc. Physical therapy makes it worse. A muscle relaxer helped for a brief time. No one has any idea what is wrong. Help!

  • Look up secondary dystonia. It is an involuntary muscle contraction sometimes caused by trauma. One of the treatments is botulism injections! Don't know if this will help. Also there is a kind of primary dys. that affect vocal cords, maybe there is a correlation. As the ET tube you had during surgery went past the cords, therein might be the trauma. Keep reading about dystonia because at first, it is all about body muscle contractures, but then it will go into specific types. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the replies. I have no dizziness or vision problems, but I do have dry mouth. I'll look into the distonia symptoms
