I am experiencing terrible stomach pains. The pains began 4 days ago, and started off dull, and I was unable to go to the toilet. They became very sharp within two days so I went to the ER. They did a blood test which came back fine, and an X-ray which also came back normal. They cleared me of having gall stones or appendicitis, gave me some laxatives and diagnosed it to be constipation. After two days of using the laxatives, I have been able to go to the toilet and the sharp pains are no longer there, however, now I am experiencing pains that are more like cramping and are crippling. I haven't been able to walk at all and have only been able to lye in the fetal position, and even then the pain still comes in waves. Please help me, the laxatives are not doing anything and I am in the worst pain I've ever felt in my life!

  • Where is the pain and how does it feel?Is it constant or intermmitent?Do you have fever? What other symptoms are you having with it?Is it different from the original pain? What makes it worse or better? How's your appetite?

  • Where is the pain and how does it feel?Is it constant or intermmitent?Do you have fever? What other symptoms are you having with it?Is it different from the original pain? What makes it worse or better? How's your appetite?Hi thereThe pain is mostly under my ribs in the middle, but also comes lower (still in the middle). The pain comes and goes, and leaves me with a sick feeling. I do not have a fever, but have had a slight temperature. Other symptoms have been constipation (not now due to laxatives), paleness, fatigue and loss of appetite. The original pain was very very sharp, this is more like cramping but more painful than the original. It makes it better to curl up in a ball, drink water, rubbing my stomach and lying down in general helps. It makes it worse to stand up, sit down normally, walk around at all (I'm walking keeled over), put pressure on it. I haven't been feeling hungry at all but have been forcing myself to eat especially since being given laxatives from the hospital. Straight after I eat, it feels a little better then shortly after starts to hurt again. Please help!

  • The middle pain sounds like it might be an ulcer, but abdominal pain and constipation often mean a bowel obstruction. You need to be checked for either one of the two possibilities.

  • If you have a primary doctor you need to call him/her now. You really need to be seen. If not, go to a walk in clinic or back to the ER, though I honestly don't have very good opinions of ER's when dealing with problems like this. I have plenty of expierences to back up that claim. Even if you just pick an Internist out of the phone book, get into see someone quickly.
