My 14 year old son is in constant stomach pain. It is under the rib cage on his right side. It causes him to double over in pain. Sometimes it is hard for him to breathe. He has been to the Gastro Dr. and the surgeon. He has had Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Stomach Ultrasound, Hida scan and the only thing they found is when the hormone was injected to the hida scan to fake the gallbladder into thinking he ate, he had alot of discomfort. The surgeon suggested he get a Stomach CT but wanted him to be on the prescription strength of Prilosec for the next month or two to see if it is the acid.
He has been on it for the past week and he said it made the pain not as bad but unfortunately he had a severe attack this morning and is once again unable to attend school. My son is not one for wanting to miss school so I know that he is in alot of pain. He is scheduled to see the Gastro Dr. today but they had mentioned it may also be floating rib. Any ideas?

  • I'm a 15 year old female, and I've been having the same symptoms...I've missed months worth of school due to feeling so horrible, I've had all the same tests and everything turns out fine, and they told me I have nerve damamge in my colon, but I've been treating that for 3 weeks now and they say it takes 2-4 weeks to heal, and I'm only feeling worse. I'm on codeine around the clock so I can sleep and even function. For me it also gets a LOT worse after eating greesy foods. Hasve you notice that with him? good luck!

  • I am 39 yrs old and I have been experiencing the same symptoms as your son for the past couple months and have seen numerous doctors without any answers. I have been checked out for every ailment that could possibly be affecting my gallbladder, pancreas and liver and all tests have come back fine. My primary dr is now trying to tell me I have a case of gastritis caused by taking too many ibuprofen-funny thing I haven't taken more than 5 ibuprofen in the last 5 yrs. She has put me on Nexium with no relief.I am in pain all the time and it is seriously affecting my daily life. My pain is a pretty consistent sharp, stabbing pain near the rib cage under my right breast. I have some upcoming appts with more specialists and will gladly share any information I receive. Please feel free to contact me at mslaurab@yahoo.com and we can share more information/ideas.Tell your son to be strong and keep his chin up.
