Hi, I am a 35 yr old female who has no real health problems. Over the past 1.5 yrs, my bowel habits/energy level have changed remarkably. My main complaints are increased gas/bloating,mild nausea frequently, feeling full quickly and my stomach never feels "right",I either have diarhhea or constipation. It feels like my digestive system is always in overdrive. I also have no energy.I do work full time and have 2 young children so I blamed it on this for a while, but I am beginning to think differently. My brother (46 yr)was recently dx with rectal cancer which prompted me to finally raise my concerns to my md about my symptoms. I had a stool sample done which showed "a mild infection " and had a colonoscopy for screening purposes last week which was "normal".
I guess my question is, why would my sample have shown "infection" if nothing is wrong.Originally, at my appt my md gave me info about Irritable Bowel Syndrome and it does seem like these are some of my symptoms, but I am not convinced, it doesn't seem to matter what I eat. It is really getting to me and making me feel like a hypochondriac. Is it normal to always have an upset stomach???? and now this past week, I've had a painful almond size lump in my pelvic area on the right side/feels like it's over a bony area, feel like my doc is gonna think I'm crazy!!!

  • Don't feel bad about this. You most likely do have a cronic condition, and they can take a while to diagnose. You have all the typical symptoms of Crohns. Crohns can affect any part the digestive system mouth - rectum. Some people never have inflamation in the large intestine and it can be very difficult to diagnose inflamation in the small intestine. The feCal test (stool sample) that was done did come back positive for white blood cells indicating an infection somewhere in your digestive tract. You need to ask for a small bowel follow through. This is an x-ray done with barrium and any kind of strictures (these can cause nausea) and somtimes inflammation can be seen. These strictures are from healed parts of the intestine. Kinda like scars inside. Crohns is usually seen without blood in the stool, unlike ulcerative colitis where blood is often seen in stool. You should also have a white blood cell count, SED, ESR done to. If you have any kind of joint issues you should have these looked into as well. Hope this helps Kiera

  • Get the usual tests Crohns/Celiac, dairy intolerence, ibs, helio, etc etc. Then, if they all come back negative, accept that it is probably anxiety related. My stomach/digestive problems I had all summer turned out to be all anxiety related and it was only after having hot flashes (I'm 26), hives, dizziness, tiredness and fatigue, etc. etc. etc. that I realized it and am working through it with no meds. If you're really tired all the time, check your intake of calcium/magnesium and vitamin d. Cod liver oil helps with concentration. You can try enzymes to help you digest food better too. It helps me sometimes. Check out this page though:http://www.womentowomen.com/depressionanxietyandmood/anxiety.aspx

  • Characteristic symptoms for parasites are: increased gas, mild nausea, diahorrea taking turns with constipation, lack of energy. They can also show up as "mild intestinal infection". So, I would advise to check for parasites if you don't get results with the other tests. Quite a few parasites are very difficult to find, though, so you should see a specialist.
