STD or some bad reaction?

I've had this symptom for quite sometime - for the most part it has been thought of as old fasion "jock itch" (over excessive itching around the inner thighs and on the upper region). So I went to twice a day on showers (during the summer/spring as it was humidity that seemed to be the culprit) and this seemed to have diminished the problem by at least 90%. However, it started creeping back - One thing that I noticed - it was agitated more by intercourse (after). So one day, I decided to shave. Cleaned everything up. This worked. No more itching. Is it possible that my skin has become sensitive to the hair? Now it growing back and the itching is more severe above. Not so much on the inner thighs, just occasionally. I can feel bumps now, much like mosqito bites. very uncomfortable, and can cause embarrasing situations (since the itching has become almost an unconcious habbit). I found numerous entries on the net regarding this (almost) and they have ranged from the "jock itch" to scabbies and STD possibility. due to finances - I dont go to a physician unless its an emergency. Itching (at least now) to me is not an emergency (yet).

thank you for any suggestions

  • Try a blood test for herpes 2; sounds like it.

  • Try a blood test for herpes 2; sounds like it.Hi thanks for the reply.I'll check into that - I don't have any of the symptoms of the H2. at leaste the "where" and "what" - just a skin irritation - that is rash like in appearance - I now (and have had for awhile) dark brown patch on the inner thighs where ive been itiching and below the navel (where the pubic hair is) feels like a bad mosqito bite. Hope that is a better symptom description.

  • I would think your local health dept would do STD testing for little or no cost to be on the safe side. Itching anywhere in that region is worth a closer examination IMO even if it's just jock itch.

  • Herpes looks a lot like jock itch or a mosquito bite, sorry. Most of the free STD clinics don't check for herpes, unfortunately ,and it requires a blood test for the specific herpes 2 virus, especially without any noticeable blisters.

Never had a std in my life (and im 43) geesh.

  • Unless you get blood work and see the test results for yourself, it will just be guess work on the part of the doctor. Many of them are clueless as to the symptoms and nature of herpes.

  • sounds like a yeast rash...get some lomitrin cream and put it on twice a day for a month & it should clear up. to better diagnose you...the bumps only appear after you shave & yes it is itchy when the hair starts to grow back. but the rash that originally made you shave yourself is a slightly raised blotchy redness, flat for the most part, like in the groin area as well? if so, it's called a yeast rash and the lotrimin cream should clear it right up if used as directed. don't skip a day though..you can just get the generic brand for half the price because lotrimin is like $8 and the other is like $3 generically it's called clotrimazole cream...you find it in the pharmacy dept by the athletes foot cream & what not, as long as it says clotrimazole for the active ingredient you're good. these rashes can appear anywhere on ur body, usually in warm moist areas.
