I am trying to figure out what's wrong with my back. In 2002 I had an anterior spinal fusion on my L5-S1. A month later, I had a posterior fusion in the same place. The doc removed the disk and added morphogenic bone protein to grow a fusion...then added plates, screws and rods to make sure it took. (I guess that was why he did both) When this was done, I was in the army and in great shape. Now, I am 27, still in pain and 70lbs overweight. However, this is not my biggest problem at the moment.
I am now having a bad burning pain in the center of my spine where they inserted the rods on the sides of my spine. Also, the first 5 or so vertebrae after the base of my neck are starting to curve the wrong way. It resembles a small hump....and they are EXTREMELY sore to the touch. And now, anywhere along my vertebrae is very sore to the touch. I have had an x-ray done. I went to this quack physical therapist that told me all my problems are muscle.....and because I carry a baby around all day. However, I know my body and I know the difference between muscles and bones....and this is my bones. I am waiting to see an ortho doc, which probably won't be until June.
In the meantime, I do not take pain meds....I never liked them. I do try ibuprofen, but with no relief. I have tried the icy-hot patch...no relief. My husband will try to massage my back, but it is too sore to touch. My vertebrae feel bruised, or like I've been laying on a rock or something.
Anyone with advice or knows of this, please help! I have an 11-month old son to take care of and I'm a full time student. This is really starting to affect my everyday life. It hurts more the longer I sit. It hurts to lay on my stomach....and sometimes on my back. The only time I get relief is when I'm asleep, but it affects my sleep as well. I go to the VA for care......so, tick-tock, I have to wait.
