I have had a sore throat for a month and a half. I have had strep but it was finally cured. I have been on 4 antibiotics. I just got done with augmentin ES 600 and I have a sore throat again. I am so confused and tired of it. I see small white spots back there again. It hurts when I swallow and it is the back of my throat this time. It was my left then right now back. This is crazy. I am scheduled to see an ENT this week. I am really scared. :(

  • It sounds like you have a case of tonsilitis- the white substance is no doubt bacterial discharge. If you are on antibiotics and this sore throat doesn't go away, it's no doubt viral in nature. Mononucleosis (Epstein Barr Virus) can cause it, but so can HIV infection. You may want to have a series of blood tests in addition to the ENT visit.
