Can you give me any information about what might be causing these symptoms? They have been getting slowly worse over the past 11 days or so.

-Persistent, severe sore throat. Pain on swallowing that ranges from slight discomfort to severe pain.
-Loss of voice over past 4 days.
-Swollen left gland in neck. Now, possibly, swollen right gland.
-Slight fever over last 10 days that ranges from 98.6 to 99.8 degrees (my usual is 97.7).
-Sharp coughing growing steadily worse. Sometimes cough up phlegm. Symptoms worst at night and in morning--prevents a good night’s sleep.
-Fluid behind both eardrums (the only thing my own doctor was able to tell me), leading to slight earaches and pressure below ears, where jaw meets neck.

My doctor told me to take Sudafed and Ibuprofen, and that she thinks it’s a virus instead of bacteria. Throat culture results will hopefully be back tomorrow sometime, but I’m just getting very worried since it shows no sign of getting better. Please let me know what you think it might be. Thanks so much.

  • go to www.youngliving.org/gilsign up and get into your cart:Essential oils, single oils,Eucalyptus Radiata- put one drop just under each ear on the throat all the way down the neck from the ear where you started. Make sure you follow the ear down the throat. There is a tube under the skin and the Eucalyptus Radiata will open it and let the ears drain- In the future you can use the remains of the bottle for other things that need opening- like lungs(put on chest and back) sinuses(put on nose and forhead and cheeks under eyes- not too close to eyes) and if you have a clogged tear duct you may use it to open that but you put a tiny amount only at night because the fumes will bother the open eye (OILs should not be put near the eye and hands should be washed so they don't put oils in the eyes by accident) Put on the area ever two to three hours until it pain, liquid, pressure is gone.Essential oils, blended oils, Thieves- this goes on the souls of your feet. 2 drops per foot every 2-3 hours. This will help you to sleep and will fight with your immune system the bacteria, virus, or fungus. essnetial oils, single oils, Clove- this will reduce the swelling in the throat and clear the sore throat up right away. Swathe it on your throat. If you have tough skin (Olive, or dark skin then you can put it on full strength, but if you have pink skin or sensitive skin then dilute with veggie oil (50-50)- do this by putting first the veggie oil in a nie thin coat on your neck and then the clove. It can be layered over or under the Eucalyptus in the sides if nec. - no harm if layering of oils occur. Do this as often as needed. Either every 2-3 hours or until pain goes and away and stays away- you may only need to do this once or twice. see if the thieves doesn't clear up the phelgm and coughing by killing the bug. If not I have something for them too-Put the Eucalyptus on the chest and back as long as you have it already. This will open them and make breathing easier, allowing you to rest more. Thyme is excellent for Phlegm, but you may just beat the bug with the thieves and the clove so I would wait. Especially since you said it wasn't all the time. Def. hack it up and spit it out. For the record- Peppermint(single oil)- will help you to do this- expectorate- spit it upbut Thyme(single oil) will cut it. Either 2 drops on the souls of the feet or rub the threads of the bottle (minute amount) and dot it under tongue (this bites) but it will stop the phelgm for a while or for good. And this is how I heal myself each time I get sick. And I get stronger each year because I do not use the synthetic meds, and so I get stronger each time as others get weaker. it is a huge difference. BTW USE THE OILS ON THE SITE I GAVE YOU www. youngliving.org/gilbecause the owner is very persnickity about the purity and the therapeutic grade quality they have. They even have the equipment to correctly test the oils that they use in Europe, other companies don't have them.(the other equipment used is for synthetic meds, not the same) IF you do GNC or some other store it will be money thrown away. Because although you may be "saving" you are not because you will not get better. Those oils will not heal. And these you will have for a long while to get others better or yourself in the future. SO don't be cheap- do it right the first time!Plus the Clove you can put into your water and stay healthy this way- one drop per day in your water GLASS. It will keep you bacteria free. Thieves oil you can always put on souls of the feet if you ever feel under the weather. They will help you to sleep and fight bugs off. It is a great oil to have around for emergencies. The toothpaste and mouthwash (Personal Care products) they have is also excellent for the gums and keeping the mouth bacteria and virus free. keep us posted

  • Did you ever figure it out? I have the exact same symptoms. The after-hours doctor just diagnosed me with strep throat.

  • About 8 years ago, I had Mono-ever since my eyes and face seem to swell every night when I sleep. It does go away during the day, but it never stops. I also noticed that my swollen glands and have never gone down in size on my neck and behind my ears. Just reciently in dental x-rays they told me I have 'fluid' in my glads which I was already painfully aware of. Everytime I come down with a run of the mill cold, I have this tremendous debilitating neck pain due to the constant swellig of the glands and eyes. Over the last 6 mths or so I seem to have a tighening in my throat and airway, could this be from the swollen glands? And lastly, I know the Mono-virus can stay in the system for many years is it possible that I may still be suffering from that? I dont want to make a big deal out of nothing but I feel discomfort quite often.Thank you

I dont want to make a big deal out of nothing but I feel discomfort quite often.Thank youOh man this whole feeling of throat swelling or something stuck in throat is horrid. I have what is suspected TMJ by my dentist which I was note tested for to any extent just told. It causes tons of symptoms. There are so many possiblities with the neck though its always best to try and rule them out or you will always wonder which is what I am in the process of doing. I do have one recomendation if you have any muscle relaxers see if that betters your condition any. Pain killers for me was a waste, felt fine for an hour then after that felt worse. My problems seemed to ocur during an abcessed tooth which was pulled and symptoms returned 2 days after the extraction. Try to think when and what you were doing when this started happening it could be connected. It is possible it could be a viral or bacteria infection such as Mono or Strep but there are also tons of possiblities. It is also possible you were misdiagnosed from the get go, during the time I haave had my issues I been told I have dental caries, viral pharayngitis, strep, and the answers of I don't know. I have had a strep test done, catscan with contrast, 2 CBCs and normal touch and feel exams done. Next step for me is an ENT besides having my dental occlusion worked on and then go from there. Whats bad there are so many possiblities, I had to literally research forever to even come to even somewhat of my own diagnosis which was TMJ before my dentist mentioned it. See but I also have jaw pain but most of my problems are in the neck. Muscle tension as someone round about stated in here as well hence the magnesium and calcium which actually the magnesium is the esstential ingredient can be helpful. The magnesium helps muscle tension and trys to help the muscle in general. So yes a lack in magnesium can cause these symptoms as well. You have several muscle in your neck some of which can cause this choking or feeling of something stuck in your throat feeling.Anyhow in your particular case since you mentioned near the ears, get check for ear infections, sinus infection(including fungal - sinus infections can take tons of antibiotics to actually help the issue), TMJ, and similiar. If you feel this is probably due to virus, bacterial or fungal infection and not muscle spasms or dental then I suggest an ENT. Actually an ENT may be even to help to figure out if it could be muscle related as well. Let me just list some possible cause of neck pain/choking feeling. GERDS(which it seems usually ends up a diagnosis of LPR when it reaches the point of neck and throat problems), lymphoma, muscle tension, low magensium, tumors, cysts, cancer, TMJ, Eagles Syndrome, swollen lymphnodes and glands, thyroid dsyfunctions, Strep, Mono, and many more causes. I wish you all luck in finding out your issues and hope I gave some of you a starting ground to do some research among some topics as in hope to find similiar symptoms to that of a condition.

  • I'm having symptoms like that and I can't figure it out. Last night, at about 3am I noticed my glands were getting really swollen, and my throat started to feel a little sore. I thought it was just my throat, so I looked in the mirror but found out that my tonsils were not even swollen. I don't know if sleeplessness has anything to do with it, because I was up until basically 6am this morning; and it got worse over time. Please help. I hope this is something I can just sleep away...
