Hi there,

I'm 18 years of age and I've been having some difficulties with my throat lately. I had a very bad sore throat the other day and it was very painful to swallow, my voice deepened because of the constriction and it's a bit hard to breathe.

The pain is completely gone today but the lump feeling still remains, and my voice is still deep because of the lumps or constriction (the airway isn't as open) in my throat. I'm just really worried that my voice will remain this pitch, because I'm a vocalist and I really cherished my feminine chords.

I have some nasal congestion but clearing it doesn't help.. I came here because basically any time I ask 'google' for medical advice the automatic response is cancer. So hopefully someone will be able to help give me suggestions..!

  • This has happened to me while I was in school. I was fine one minute, and it came on like a gunshot... In fact it was so bad, I could barely speak, and the pain was so intense, my eyes cringed and I was reduced to a half-cry. Upon this, I was rushed to the nurse at school, they recommended I drink some ice cold water, when I get home, some fresh tea. The lump is very annoying, I admit, my Mom was a professional gym trainer, she suggested that it may be a lack of vitamins, so I took some of her vitamin pills and worked out a bit, it wasnt as bad, but it was still there. Afterwards though, every time I swallowed, it felt like someone ran a fork down the right side of my throat. The ice cold water definitely did help for the pain... The tea was modest for the lump afterwards, however, I didn't notice a drop in voice pitch. But my airway was feeling more closed off than usual.ANOTHER thing my parent said as well is that it could be a gathering of mucus and other gunk in your throat and the bacteria in it caused the pain, the lump is the residual buildup, and that will go away in time as natural drinking and eating will slowly break it down. As my parent said, it could be a lack of vitamins that are essential for your immune system and that this could be residual effects of one of those 24 Hour bugs you can sometimes get. I honestly don't know what it was, but the residual effects after the sore throat lasted for a few weeks, tea, ice water and vitamins have helped me quite a bit during the time though. Sorry if I wasn't much help though and best of luck!
