My son is 14, has autism, on the higher end but has bipolar disorder also.
The problem that cropped up about 4 months ag. First my son had lithium toxicity for about 10 weeks, back and forth adjusting readjusting and in hospitals. They found his thyroid level was low, so now he is on thyroid med. Since then he is on low 300mg daily dose of lithium, risperdal, depakote, cogentin and trazodone as needed. He rarely needs full dose of trazodone. He is always tired, losing wieght about 50lbs so far. He doesnt have much of an appetite. Always cold. As of last test thyroid level is normal. He complains of pain in his joints recently, this is a kid who never complains of pain.
Any ideas?

  • Ones with autism are more sensitive then normal people to drugs. It could be some kind of reaction to one of his drugs or to the combination of them. Also make sure he hasnt got a vitamin deficiency.. eg D3 deficiency or B12 deficiency. i strongly suggest to make sure he's had blood tests checking these things.
