  • Are you on WC for the injury? If so, can you talk with your doc about acupuncture? I think it would really help you, and since your injury is relatively recent it would really help promote healing in the lumbar and sciatic areas. Plus it is excellent for fibro and chronic fatigue. Visit www.acufinder.com to find a practitioner near you. Concerning swollen glands - do you also have a sore throat or sinus pain?Any fever sensation? Any problems urinating? How high is your wbc count? Best wishesDOM

  • I am sitting here on this site today because I have an anular tear of L5S1. If you are only a month out you need to take a deep breath and realize that this is going to be a long healing process. I have been told over and over that it is 2 steps forward and 1 back for this type of injury. I have had a couple of major set backs, but I am one year out from my injury and should be returning to work as a paramedic later this month. I would highly reccomend an EMG be done as soon as possible. This will help you with your impairment rating at the end of this process. I promise the pain will be worth it if it comes back positive for damage. I waited until just a couple weeks ago and ended up negative even though I still have some weakness in my right leg. Also, ask to see a pain management specialist. They can administer ESI (Epidural Steroid Injection). I was afraid to do ESI at first, but when I finally relented I found that they greatly improved my pain level. When I started all of this I couldn't sit, lay flat, stand for any length of time, or walk for more than about 15 min. The only position I could tolerate (even with 2 Norco and a Valium) was reclined with my legs bent. I am now lifting 75lbs from the floor and my pain is minimal. I am on Lyrica which is GREAT for nerve pain, but VERY expensive. If you aren't on worker's comp, then you might ask for neurontin which is similar but has more side effects. I also found that theraputic massage helped a lot in loosening up the muscles in my hips and legs which reduces the pull on your back.If you have any other questions I will keep an eye on this thread.Good Luck and God Speed
