Help! I'm really freaked out, for several months now I've had a disgusting smelling vaginal discharge. I'm only 17 and its really embarrassing. Its yellowly-white and gooey. I went to the doctors a while back and got a swab thing but it came back as normal and nothing showed up. No diseases, no thrush, nothing. I don't know what to do! I've been wearing tampons/pads whenever I go out to hide the smell but I can't do that forever! Would the doctors thing show up cancer? Theres none in my family, but could it be some kind?

  • Don't worry, you don't have Lyme. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. The only thing I can suggest is to go back to your doctor and have some more tests run.

  • are you sexually active? If so, go to planned parenthood and get checked there again or fine another one. You really sound positive for something and probably did not get checked for "everything", which includes viruses, such as herpes or warts...sounds like it could be gonorrhea...you need to rule out syphillis and hiv with a blood test--they check for herpes with a blood test, too...

  • Bingo, sweetie using tampons could be your problem, I had the same problem recently. Tampons keep your discharge inside your body for longer than it's supposed to. Bacteria starts to grow, and the smell might not going away until you can let yourself be free. Try on a day when you're able to be home when no one is there to smell it, take a bath, clean, and see if a few days without tampons change it at all.

  • Read Parasites-Trichomoniasis.http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec11/ch149/ch149a.htmlHope this helps. Hi there. If the swabs were taken for microbiology only, they wouldn't have been able to diagnose cervical or vaginal cancers - those are only done by cytologists (not microbiologists...). If it were Lyme or Treponema pallidum (the bacteria that causes Syphillis) there might not have been any organism cultured as these organisms are not fastidius and don not grow as fast as say Staphs. These organisms will only be identified using very specialized microscopy - known as dark field or even fluorescent microscopy. The discharge being white might be an indication of Trichomona vaginalis or even T.hominis. If the discharge has a "fishy" odour it might be Gardnarella vaginosis. These are both sexually transmitted, so if this is the case, other infections like Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea should also be investigated. I agree that the use of a tampon should not be continued as this will cause incubation for any organism(s). I know it is unpleasant and uncomfortable for any female, but a proper gynaecological investigation is needed! Especially if you want to have babies of your own one day. Take care.

  • I had that and the only thing that seemed to help was metronidazole, but it kept coming back. It was chronic LYME. Join Lymenet. You will need long-term antibiotics, and a pcp or gyn will never diagnose it. You need an LLMD.Why do you tell everyone they have LYME?????? I think your obsess with it.

  • Why do you tell everyone they have LYME?????? I think your obsess with it.Hi, girls out there, i have had recurrent thrush like symptoms, usually before or after a period.. This happens to me regularly.. I am seeing a gynaecologist... Periods can also cause this.... I know there is a bad odour, but i found vaginal gel called balance activ, which are easy to use, gets rid of the smell instantly and makes you feel comfortable again.. Sooo good.. Getting further investigations, will keep you informed..

  • I had a similar experience several years ago - a very foul-smelling, thick, yellow/green vaginal discharge. STDs were negative, but metronidazole took it away every time. My guess is it was Trichomoniasis. My advice...beg for metronidazole, and most importantly, find a new boyfriend. Every time I would sleep with this same guy, I'd start oozing funkiness again and would need another round of metronidazole.

  • That sounds like Trichomoniasis. Its so easily treated. The doctor should have at least given you an antibiotic just to see if it could help. It wouldn't have hurt you if it didn't work. But may as well get you some Diflucan or other yeast meds because the antibiotic will give you a yeast infection too.
