I am new to the site and came on to ask about a serious skin problem that has recently cropped up. For about six weeks now, I have had a serious skin redness that occurs any time I rub, slap or scratch my skin at all. Even something like lighting rubbing my eyes, or scratching an itch (even very very gently) leaves a deep redness on my skin for several minutes (15-30 minutes). If I get hit with something (even the occasional piece of food that comes flying at me at my restaurant job, in jest of course) it leaves a mark! Something as simple as clapping my hands leaves me burning and red!
It doesn't seem to happen any one place or time more than any other. I have also been having some strange stomach/esophageal reactions to certain foods (mostly cheese) but that is only occasional and the skin thing is ALWAYS. Every day, any time, any place.
I've read about dermatographia and I know that hives normally accompany it, which have been managed with antihistamines but I can't be on those forever...
