Since late January this year to present (May) i've had what I believe to be a viral infection that I cannot get rid of. Symptoms include:
Blockage of the nasil passage (blocked nose & runny nose) - This was a major problem to start with and was the very first symptom. I can put up with a blocked nose for a day or two like when you have a cold or flu but this went on for over 2 weeks. I tried decongestants for this which only seemed to passify the problem. Otrivine nasil spray worked best.
Excessive discharge of Mucas - This has been constant since the begining. Through the nose when sneezing and blowing mainly.
Constant sneezing (lasts for a few days then goes) - I have days where I cannot stop sneezing and then days when I only sneeze once or twice. I believe this is my body's way of getting rid of the virus.
Itchy Ear (slight loss of hearing & ear infection symptoms) - Due to constantly blowing my nose I think the infection passed on to my ears. The inner ear became itchy and they 'popped' regularly.
Sore Throat - Lasted for only 1 day recently and went. Possibly this is to do with build of of phlem in my throat.
Coughing (tickling & chesty cough) - This was the last symptom I had, although mild to start with it has recently become very irritable. Coughing up phlem is a constant occurance and is now my main problem.
Occasional headaches - Doesn't happen a lot but has occured a few times during the past few months.
Doctor has not been able to give a proper diagnosis. They have suggested sinusitus/alergies (similar to hay fever) and have pescribed Antibiotics (the doctors answer to everything!), steroid type nasil spray (to help with the nose problems) and tablets to help with the alergy type symptoms.
I'm now due to return to the doctors as I have still not managed to shake off my illness.
How I caught this I have no idea but it could have originated from december when I played football outside in the cold wheather and took in a lot of cold air into my lungs.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
