Hey All, Im posting because my frustration is starting to build up again and I just need to vent. I am 28 years old and all of this started in Nov 2006 with what i thought was a common cold. I had $30,000 in insurance claims last year and no one can tell me whats wrong still. Here is a list of my current symptoms, things have definitely improved a little since early last year but lots of risidual symptoms still happening:

swelling in left ring finger approx every 2 weeks for the last 8-9 months, it swells for 3-4 days at a time to the point of not being able to bend my finger and is very painfull. It swells in the area between the nuckle and the middle bone part (in the cushy part). The swelling has since started spreading up my arm into my other hand and feet now. I can feel the stiffness everywhere sometimes.

a few times a week my breathing gets very shallow, feels like im not even breathing sometimes, everything feels really "slow" in my body if that makes sents. Lasts for a couple of hours sometimes.

Light headed
muscle pain
pain/burning sensation in my rib area (sometimes)
Fatigue
nausia (occassional)
weight gain
distended stomach (look a few months preg)
dizzy and headaches when I attemp to excersize
irratable

Here are the things I know:

have hiatal hernia
have endometriosis (diagnosed via lap nov 2007)
low DHEAS level
had strep infection that went undiagnosed for about 5 months, found in blood test.
out of breath with the smallest amount of exursion.
abnormal treadmill test, heartbeart freaks out a little when running, recovers fast per the doctor.
Tomorrow I have a pulminary breathing test.
buldging disk in neck (C6-C7 i think)
3 years of infertility (probably endo) or just being sick)

I am currently seeing a rheumatologist who has seen my hand swelling, she simply gave me naproxin and said "take 1000 mg a day and lets see if we can control the swelling, come back in 2 months". GRRRR! This is my life lady...can we do some work here???!!!

let me know if anyone has any fresh ideas or thoughts, im at a loss at this point. I have had lots of tests done. Brain MRI, neck MRI, abdominal cat scan, ect, ect, ect....I just want to feel 28 again!:(

Thanks,
Stacky

  • Man, you say the exact thing as me when it comes to our age. I'm 28 aswell and have been suffering aswell. Docs can't give me a clear answer either, with a lot of medical costs. I do know one thing, you mentioned some medical issues they did spot and that would justify part of the breathing. I also was going to tell you from experiance, with phyisical pain comes mental pain aswell, vice versa. You sound like you have a lot of stress and correct me if I'm wrong, depression. like I said mental and physical symptoms play off each other. The breathing issue have they found out or checked your lungs for certain diseases? It is hard to diagnose sometimes because symptoms fall under so many categories. I have been diagnosed with MS and myelitis but then they don't know for sure now:( Anyway, be persistant, u can get thru this. Best regards!

Thanks for the reply, well when I first started getting sick I did get a lot of anxiety (from not knowing what was wrong with me), not too depressed just more frustrated. I am taking a small dose of zoloft to control the anxiety but I am still left with all of my other symptoms that have been there all along. I have come to expect to feel this way everyday I guess and it sucks but its how I have been for over a year now. I just want to feel normal again and have my strength back and start being a wife again and start trying to have a child. Its frustrating watching everyone around me lead normal full lives and I feel very left out. I hope you feel better soon also and get some solid answers, I think the not knowing park but knowing something is wrong is the worst part of all of this. Best wishes,Stacky

  • Not a doctor - but have you had a cardiologist check you out? Echocardiogram and an EKG might be a good start - did anyone ever check for congestive heart failure? Some of your symptoms - although you are very young, do coincide with heart disease. I'll be praying for you - not every symptom is a psychological issue. Explore all avenues! God Speed.P.S. I'm a 31-YO female who has been having muscle cramps and spasms for over three years - I've gone to soooo many doctors and specialists and have had soooo many tests! New symptoms have developed over the last 6 months and I was sent to the Neuromuscular Clinic at UCONN. They are giving me an EMG next week and will definately have a diagnosis for me a month later. They won't say what it is but they say they know it is a disease and regardless of what the test shows they will have a diagnosis. - Simply put, don't let people make you think this is all in your head - you know your body better than anyone else! Keep up the fight to find a cure for yourself!!!!

If u don't mind sharing, do u know what kind of disease they have been mentioning to u? I started having a lot of muscle spasms in my calves, then numbness and tingling sensations, and now it has went into no feeling of my legs. I also do know physical symptoms can cause mental symptoms aswell as mental physical, that is why I mentioned that. Anyway, best regards to both of u!

  • I'm not a doc...but have you ever been tested for ebstein-barr virus? It causes Monoucleosis. There are no 'cures' for it and most of your symptoms fit the bill (except finger swelling and a few others..) Some of your symptoms may be from anxiety about you health. I'm 45 and was diagnosed 20 years ago or so. I was exhausted all the time, and I felt like I always had the flu...achy... depressed...I felt like I had been drugged, sooo tired. I had all these tests run for Lupus, Hepatitus c others I couldn't even pronounce. But teh E.B virus causes symtoms similar as other illnesses so many docs don't catch it, or they say, "everyone has the EB virus" when what they are really saying is they don't know anything about it. Find a doctor that will do a blood test and I actually had to ask my doc to do one...who is the doctor here.. Problem is, conventional doctors don't look outside the box, they want to label you with a disease, but if all your test come back okay, start looking @ other things. Depression, fibromalgia, chronic fatigue, all these illnesses have similar symptoms. And you should find a doc that is willing to treat your symptoms with supplements. I found I had to take charge of my own health, get on the internet and google your symptoms. You can learn about any illness on the web. Print out what you find and take it to your doc, they don't like us being to educated, but that's tough! I get on vitacost.com and research symptoms and iherb.com, they also sell high quality natural supplements. I could write a book on subject, but now @ 45, I'm doing better than ever, because of my diet and exercising and I take about 15 supplements a day, but I feel really good

  • I take higher doses od EPA/DHA fish oil- 4- grams a day or higher. High doses of Magnesium and calcium for muscle aches( the magnesium has to be balanced with calcium- you can get on the internet and find safe doses for any supplements) , good quality multi-, B complex for energy, Sam-e for joint pain and great for depression ( tests in Europe show works as well as an anti-depressant-must take high enough dose...again, check a well-known site for dose limits on all of these) A great web-site to order these @ is Vitacost.com . You can type in your symptoms and up will come what they suggest you take. They have excellant quality vitamins and shipping in only 5.00 for anything you order. I've been using their site for 3 years now and it's very informative. If you suffer depression to- you know that it can cause real, physical aches and pains. It causes many of the symptoms you describe. I know it can make you feel so bad that you feel you must have a serious illness...it will physically make you sick. I'm not assuming you suffer with this, but that could be part of your issues. You obviously have the internet, research those illnesses I mentioned and get educated. It's not hard to do...

I also know, there are other physical factors that can be real and cause depression. They seem to feed off one another. I believe for me my depression adds to the pain quite a bit though. Thankyou for your info, it was helpful!

  • COLDS, & 'FLU: I used to get colds and 'flu every winter, but since adopting the recommendations at http://www.mercola.com I have not had one for the last 3 years. This I attribute not only to my enhanced immune system, but also to the antiviral, antibacterial, and anti fungal additives to my diet, which now makes my body a very poor environment for such organisms to multiply in. Dr mercola recommends that everyone consume garlic: I eat 2 cloves, daily. Odorless garlic is an option, but not the one I choose. He also recommends to alternate ginger and cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, on a daily basis, to prevent the possibility of developing an allergy, but I have found that I can consume 2 level teaspoons of the following mix on a daily basis, with no problems: 1 part nutmeg; 2 parts cloves; 2 parts cinnamon; 20 parts garlic. Although I add one level teaspoon to a cup of green tea, I later consume the dregs as well, AFTER a banana & yoghurt smoothie (it is quite potent stuff, and my stomach complains, otherwise, if taken neat). In addition, he advises people to get adequate daily exposure to sunlight, and to eat in accordance with their "nutritional type" as determined by using the searchbar on that, as well as "sunlight exposure" at his website, which is now the most popular alternative health website in the world. In your case, I strongly advise you to have a complete medical examination, including thyroid function, adrenals, blood sugar and levels of vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, calcium, iron, and potassium: the works, in fact. You may be surprised by what is revealed. He recommends that you slowly SUCK zinc lozenges for colds, at earliest onset. Why not subscribe to the regular, free Ezine at the mercola website? I have learned a LOT through it, and look forward to it. You may also wish to enter in their searchbar: "probiotics" & "chlorella detox" & "nutritional type". These may help, and certainly won't harm. Consider getting a second opinion, and trying an osteopath, like Dr. Mercola, a naturopath, and, if those fail, Chinese medicine (note the warnings at mercola.com about SOME of the imported Chinese product). I'd also adopt an allergy minimisation diet* for at least a few months, and avoid artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, MSG, and sweeteners, such as Aspartame & Sucralose. * There's not enough space here, but feel free to contact me, at: shaneris@myway.com

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • You all need to look up "Lingering Pathogens". This may give you some insight into your problems.Another thing to consider is reaction to mold. Many people are having continuous upper respiratory problems as the result of mold and the doctors don't have a clue.Look up "mold toxicity". It can cause other problems too.Dr Mercola's advice is not always good to follow. I laugh that he reccomonds these spices to "prevent" allergies. I get an allergic reaction FROM them.
