I have been sick since July 6, 2008 and can't seem to get any resolve to what is going on in my body. It seems I have gone from one sickness into another but wonder if this is all symptomatic of something deeper.

July 5, 2008 our family went to King's Dominion to ride roller coasters and swim/play on the water rides. We had certain conditions that may or may not have instigated a problem. It was very smokey on our way there, due to fires in the Great Dismal Swamp. The smoke was so thick in the Hampton Roads area, it appeared as a thick fog.
It was clear after we left the Hampton Roads area, and during our time at King's Dominion; it was sunny and comfortable in temperature.

July 6, 2008, I developed a small rash on my abdomen. I thought it might be ringworm from the pool/locker room. Treated it with a fungal cream with cortizone. It continued to grow and spread. The main rash spread out from the initial rash in a circular pattern. I also developed little itchy nodule type bumps on my arms, thighs, and running from the large rash around my abdomen to my back.
I decided it was not ringworm, so I treated it with an antibacterial cream. It continued to grow and soon was large on my stomach, about dinner plate size. It was red, with tiny sacks filled with liquid. The rash felt leathery, hot and also burned/itchy.

July 10, 2008 I went to a doctor, home treatment was not working. Doctor was not sure what it was, thought maybe poison ivy? Called another doctor in who said she thought it might be impetigo. Given Keflex 500 mg. Told I should see improvement over the weekend, if not come back on Monday.

July 14,2008 went back to doctor. Rash angrier, larger and nodules spreading. Itchy and burning. Muscles ache, joints ache. Doctor takes one brief look when I lift up shirt to reveal rash on abdomen and refers me to Dermatologist.
During evening, I develope low grade fever 99.6. I determine I am not going to wait days to get to a Dermatologist. Make a judgement call to go to emergency room.
They look at it and say it looks like Cellulitis. Give me a round of antibiotics by I.V. Send me home with instructions to return back in 48 hours for re-check. Also give me prescription of Bactrim 500 mg, to take two tablets twice daily (2000 mg a day), motrin 800 mg, and vicadin.

In 48 hours, main rash looks better. Still have nodules popping and growing together on skin. Determines that I have two issues going on, Cellulitis and contact Dermatitis. Issues prescription for steroid (Prednisone)

Next day see Dermatologist. Takes biopsy of an area on leg. I tell him I am still running a low grade fever 99.5. Possible concern, says we will keep an eye on it. Told to continue to take antibiotic, but today is my last day of antibiotic. Given Cutavate to rub on any of the bumps that pop up.

Within two days of coming off antibiotic, my temperature goes to 100.5. Next evening my temperature goes to 101.9. I have chills and hot spells, now I have developed a cough.

Monday, July 28, left lung area has pain in the lower area. I cough and there is definitely congestion in chest. Can't get in with my Primary Care Manager, so I am told to go to NowCare. Told I have a respiratory infection and given antibiotic (Levaquin 750 mg). I feel lethargic, weak and aching joints. Also given guaifenesin with codeine. Blood is also taken.

4 days later, Lab calls back says Lyme Disease is negative, Artheritis is negative but my CRP (C-reactive protein) came back high. Am told this measures inflamation in the body, but it is non-specific. Need to make a doctor appointment for follow-up.

Follow up with doctor on August 4. Listens to chest, orders chest x-ray. Possible pnemonia? Treats yeast infection due to long course of antibiotics. Will order new blood work when this infection clears (8/18/08).

Receive results via mail, chest x-ray is clear and my cholesterol is normal (below 200)

Today is August 10, 2008. I am still having coughing fits, have been off antibiotic for over a week. Still feel pain in left lung area and have conjestion with wheezing. No fever. My previous rash area on stomach still itches, and I have a couple of nodules still present where the rash was. The area is still discolored (purplish, redish under the skin). Sometimes I itch on other areas of my skin with no apparent reason (could be psychosis after all the itching I have been through)

My history includes; being diagnosed with I.B.S. (irritable bowel syndrome), Asthma and G.E.R.D.,

Last years physical showed I am borderline anemic. I bruise very easily and have bruises even now, I have no idea where they come from. They also say I have gallstones and should have my gall bladder removed.

My mother in law also tells me to let them know I was really sick last year around Memorial day. She thinks there could be a connection. I went through the high fever, and cough issue which I seem to be going through now.

Needless to say, it would be good to hear of some theories I could take to a doctor to check on. It seems like they have just been guessing, so maybe I need to add a few guesses to the mix? Has anyone experienced this and received a diagnosis? Please let me know.

  • Did anyone else in your family get any bumps at all? Has anyone cultured for MRSA? Don't want to scare you but it is contagious and some people develop very bad co-infections while others seem to be able to fight it off pretty well on their own. Also have they looked into parasites? Which Lyme test did they do- hopefully they did the Western Blot?

Also have they looked into parasites? Which Lyme test did they do- hopefully they did the Western Blot? No one else in the family ended up these bumps. Even with my husband and I sleeping in the same bed, he has not had any issues. They didn't culture for MRSA. The only biopsy taken was from my leg site (different than main rash on abdomen), came back that they think I had a bad reaction to a bug bite (unbelievable!)They have not looked at parasites either. What various types of parasites should there be a check for? As far as the Lyme test, I don't know which one they did. I didn't know that there were different tests that could be administered. http://thumbp2.mail.mud.yahoo.com/tn?sid=1255003744&mid=AOvPjkQAAS6qSH%2BNKwc%2B3A%2FkZPA&partid=5&f=326&fid=Senthttp://thumbp2.mail.mud.yahoo.com/tn?sid=1255003744&mid=AOvPjkQAAS6qSH%2BNKwc%2B3A%2FkZPA&partid=3&f=326&fid=Senthttp://thumbp2.mail.mud.yahoo.com/tn?sid=1255003744&mid=AOvPjkQAAS6qSH%2BNKwc%2B3A%2FkZPA&partid=4&f=326&fid=SentAbove pictures are of Large stomach rash; Line of bumps spreading from stomach rash and Leg rash. At this time, my stomach is purplish in color and still has a couple of scabbed bumps located within the initial rash area.

  • I had a second set labs done last week; while I was feeling much better and there appears to be no more infection. Today I went to the doctor to read the lab results and found out my C-RP (C-reactive protein) is 3 times higher than the norm. I have more labs that have been ordered to investigate further to the inflamation in my body. She is also investigation further my borderline anemia. Since C-RP test are non-specific, we are now checking for specifics. She has ordered labs for thyroid, lupus, folic acid, B12 and cholesterol.

  • I couldn't open the picture links to see what's you're dealing with. I would still ask them to culture for MRSA. I would ask about the possibility of parasites and I would ask if they have run a Western Blot (the real Lyme test- most just run the simple test that tells you nothing basically). Let me know how the other blood tests come out too.

  • I couldn't open the picture either, but I agree with DizzyLizzie; you may have a MRSA infection. And retest for Lyme. The Lyme test often comes out negative whtn you've been on antibiotics, however. It's better to wait until off antibiotics for about 6 weeks. Since your rash started on the abdomen in a circular pattern, before spreading to your arms and legs, it seems like it may be related to a bite, or some kind of contact on the abdomen. You've taken the needed antibiotics for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (Bactrim)...and you don't have symptoms of RMSF...It seems like the antibiotic that helped you most was Bactrim... It doesn't work as fast as some other antibiotics, and sometimes you need to take it for longer, particularly if you are still sick. Levaquin can make you feel lousy. Get some probiotics for the candida overgrowth. Hope this helps. Marionstar
