I have all of these and the scratching will actually make the itching worse (try ice). Mine started with itching in random areas of my body (actually started primarily on my thighs, probably due to pants "rubbing" and irritating the skin), but no visible signs and when I would itch, it would then "welt up" and the itching would intensify. I've been on many different medications and nothing has worked. After working with many doctors for almost a year trying to find a cause, my doctors finally sent my blood off for a specialized test that found certain autoantibodies so it was determined that mine has an autoimmune basis. I wish I could tell you that it will just go away, but it probably will only get worse if it's anything like mine (although mine is a severely treatment-resistant case) and many others I have read about. The way you can tell if it's dermatographia (DPU is closely related) is to take a "sharp, but blunt" object, like a toothpick or a "click-type" ball point pen, and draw an "X" with a decent amount of pressure on your arm or leg...if it swells up and becomes itchy (the itchiness is the key) after anywhere from 5-60 mins (mine takes about 5 mins, some people may take up to an hour or more), you probably have dermatographia...if not, it will just turn pink and disappear, it may leave a small scratch, but will not be itchy. You really need to be seen by an allergist or dermatologist (I would recommend an allergist, but some people prefer dermatologists) in order to treat this if it is. Some people have successfully treated it homeopathically, but I tried what they suggested and it didn't work.

  • I have problems like this also. Here are my symptoms in chronological order. Scrotal itching with no genital rashes or discharge.Itching spreads and rashes and hives form on my waiste but not on my genitals.Itching becomes generalized and rashes and hives form on my elbows. This is off and on not steady. This seems to happen after a period of stress. The scrotal itching seems to be most frequent.I have no prior history of sexual contact. My kidney and liver function tests look good.I don,t have diabetes.
