I am a 20 year old female with what appears to be a severe ulcer in my mouth that has been there for 2 weeks. It is located on the inside of my lip. It started out small but has grown to be atleast half an inch and has a white layer over it. It also swells at night to the maximum and the swelling does not go completely down even with me treating it. I have been using warm salt water for the ulcer and motrin and ice for the swelling. Why is it swelling at night and why isn't the ulcer getting any better. I have also never had canker sores or ulcers except when I had braces.

Her doctor told her it was an allergy reaction. She kept a diary and finally figured out the culprit was wheat. If she says out of wheat products she does fine. She eats any wheat and she get the ulcerated sores back. Strange but true.
