Ever since i can remember my belly button has hurt when i push it. I always thought this was normal... apparently not. So the logical thing was to not push it! But in the last 6 months or so its gotten alot worse. It now hurts randomly by itsself. its like a sharp pain, like someone is pulling it from the inside, i have to literally lie in the foetal position and not move as it hurts so much. it lasts for about 2-3hrs if i dont take any pain medication. It also hurts when i sneeze or if i push above it.
I had a ultrascan ($190 later!) which showed no abnormalities (they were suspecting a hernia) So my doctor has put me on reflux medication (nexium) as a trial. Never in my life have i had reflux, so i know its not that. Does anyone have any advice? Im trying to get a second option. But at the moment im feeling doctors are usless so im trying to atleast get a idea of what it could be! Is there any tests i should ask for, to get a accurate diagnosis? thanks!

  • they were always irregular. never been normal. i got it late to start with (about 17y old), so the doc put me on the pill so it was regular. they been fine after that. Always been on the more painful side, which was another reason for the pill.

  • I know you've had this a long time, but my appendicitis FIRST hurt around the navel for about three weeks. At first it was around the surface, then became much deeper. Maybe your belly button is your appy indicator also. I was very surprised when I finally went to the ER and got the diagnosis. I had no fever, and my WBC's were only slightly elevated. The CT scan showed a ruptured appendix (which is wasn't, just "smouldering"). P.S. I have a very small umbilical hernia also.
