i am asking for my step mom, she has severe pain and swelling in the ankles, redness, chills and fever. the swelling and pain alternates from left to right to left to right. it lasts for about 5-8 days each ankle/foot. she also has polycythemia; she is taking chemo pills, hydroxyurea and phlebotomy. she thinks that the pills are what is causing the swelling. but her doctors say that it is just gout because gout is a complication of polycythemia. it definitely isn't gout she says. it isn't gout symptoms. she can't hardly walk but if she keeps moving, it's easier for her.
also, she had her spleen removed a few years ago because she was hit by a car and it ruptured so she has no protection now.
i really don't know what's going on, i just wish that i could get an idea of what it is, if there's anyone out there who has this or knows of anyone who has it... please help. her quality of life is just going downhill.
