Severe Abdominal Pain

I really need some help. For the past two months I have been really really sick. However within the past 4 weeks it's gotten worse. I have severe abdominal pain in the upper abdomen which gets worse within minutes of taking a bite of food.

It doesn't matter what I try eat, I even tried drinking Ensure just to get the nutrients however that just causes excruciating pain and I am doubled over and hysterical within minutes. The pain starts in the upper abdomen and eventually goes down through the middle of my stomach or abdomen area.

I was hospitalized two weeks ago because of severe dehydration and the fact that I stopped eating. I am at the point where I want to stop eating again. My doctor did a CAT scan which came back normal, my blood work is slightly elevated and I am scheduled to have an upper GI and a colonoscopy within a couple of weeks. My doctor told me I have to force food down and just deal with the pain because there is nothing he can do for me at the moment. I had my gallbladder out two years ago and my appendix was removed in 1996.

Please can someone help me figure out what is going on because I am already losing a lot of weight and no one seems to have an answer about what could be wrong except that I just have to bear it. Even painkillers don't seem to take away the pain.

  • Just something to think about...my daughter had severe stomach pain as well--in hospital several times, tested all organs, colonoscopy (she was just 18), everything and nothing showed up. Our GP decided to do food allergy testing and we found that she was allergic to almost everything we eat every day. Pepper, milk, yeast, gluten, wheat are just a few. We did a 6 month trial as suggested by the doctor and eliminated all. Then we gradually introduced some of the lower rated foods and moved up. She cannot have any ice cream or we are back to the ER. So far, other items seem to just cause headaches and joint pains. I just read your thread while searching for something else and you sounded like my daughter did a couple of years ago. I hope you are feeling better soon.:)
