Please help if you can, my husband has been in sever pain for the past 7 months, bone pain in shoulders, back and upper arms. He had blood work initially they thought he had a parathyroid adenoma, he had a scan which was negative. His calcium levels are elevated his alkaline phosphate is low. Bun/Creatine ratio is high. He also had MRI of shoulder they were also negative. He is really suffering any advise anyone please? Thanks

  • Have they checked his kidney's?? High calcium levels often will create kidney stones. Check out hypercalcemia causes here on WD. It may help.

  • Were parathyroid hormone levels checked with the bloodwork? Scans can be negative even when there's a problem so pathology is key here. Quite an interesting site is http://parathyroid.com/ - run by a doctor in Florida but there's plenty of useful information. The good news is that if one of the parathyroids is a problem there then it's a relatively simple operation to remove the affected gland, which has an extremely (as in "almost certain") good chance of being benign. Hope your husband gets well soon.
