My mother is 55 years old, have sound medical history and no major illness. in may 2006 she suffered from sudden severe loose motions. the local physician gave her a medicine to stop the loose motions but she kept complaining of severe weakness and nausea with abdominal pain. this led to many test including CT scan, MRI, endoscopy, almost all relative blodd test including one for liver, gall bladder even xrays of the spine. almost all test were done for the entire abdomen except pancreas. she lost lot of weight over next three months, almost 15 pounds. a biopsy was also performed to rule out any type of cancer. every single report came out normal, there seemed to be nothing wrong. she continues to feel sever upper abdominal pain followed by weakness and lack of hunger, also she cannot eat normal diet (she is a vegetarian)because as soon as she eats
anything that has fat content, it causes her the abdominal pain.
the investigation is going on till date, she has been to many doctors who keep suggesting one or the other thing and she gets the tests done but unfortunately no one has been able to diagnose what is causing her the abdominal pain. At the moment she is seeing a specilist who has suggested her that the pancreas may have some kind of disorder in them but even that is not confirmed yet.

it has been almost 6 months but no tests, no doctor and no medicine has been able to either help her or know the cause of pain in the upper abdomen.

If we are overlooking any aspect or if anyone has suffered in the same manner, please let me know what can i do to get the right diagnosis. if anyone can suggest us anything that can help her, please do.

Thank you

  • Hi,Addison's disease has similar symptoms:When you are having prominent symptoms such as diarrhea, abdomin pain, vomitting, low blood pressure it is a crisis. An Addison's disease sufferer has adrenal gland problems. It is a condition where the adrenals are underproducing hormones the main one being cortisol. If she has the disease it is an emergency and she needs the cortisol as soon as possible.Other symptoms may include hyperpigmentation (dark skin spots), depression, irritability, weight loss (poor appetite) dizziness, hypoglycemia, low blood pressure, irregular heart beats. • Hi There, I can relate in some way to your distress and think it may be worth your moms trouble to mention to a doctor to check for Carcinoid, this involves a 24 hour urine test and blood tests. Its a rare and often overlooked condition, which has some of the symptoms you describe. I to am being tested as we speak now, my weight loss has been more severe though about 40pounds. Wishing you good luck and hope this helps.Lori
