my dad was in hospital in jan with bloodclot on both lungs and pnuemonia. 3 weeks ago, he started getting severe pains down the base of his spine and having chills and fevers with shakes and agonising pains which lasted approx 20 mins a time. After numerous emergency calls he was admitted to hospital who suspect sepsis, but can find no under lying cause for this, could anybody please, give any advice possible as to what may be wrong. Also

he has very low blood pressure
erratic heart rate
breathing difficulty
severe sweats
kidney infection
severe back pain

  • what is his temperature? if its below 97.0, take him in right away. Low temps, chills, low bp, etc. are all sign of sepsis.

  • his temp is very high, he has been in intensive care for 5 days but is deteriorating rather than getting better. He is also coughing up blood

  • Sepsis causes low temps, not high. So we can safely rule that out. What is his blood creatinine level? Has he been tested for cancer?

  • I am not sure sure about his blood creatine levels, I know he had a blood transfusion today because he was aneamic and his blood was very thinon friday, he was given plasma to thicken it up. He had a boroscopy in january and that came back supposedly clear, but I am beginning to question it all now. Thanks for takin the time to get back its much appreciated.

  • Check for blood infection (rare, they may not have done a culture, and even if they have, they may not have the results of a culture back yet).Check for staph infection in the lungs. Have they scanned the lungs in the last couple days? If not, and he is coughing up blood, that ought to be enough to warrant it.Is he on antibiotics through his IV? Do they have any idea what they might be fighting? The underlying cause could be that he picked up something nasty when he was in the hospital for the pneumonia a few weeks ago. My sister-in-law got an infection in the hospital when she gave birth. Almost died 6 weeks later, and now sports a foot-long scar around her ribs, where they had to open her up, and scrape out all the necrotic tissue from the staph infection she contracted, and that moved into her lungs. If he did get it from the hospital, it has a higher likelihood of being antibiotic resistant, and he would need to be on a harsh, intravenous antibiotic cocktail. If your description is accurate, they better try some things fast, because waiting this out is clearly not going to help. And don't be afraid to call in another doctor. If you aren't getting the answers you need from the doctors assigned to him, see if you can talk to another doc who is a specialist in kidneys, and a specialist in infections, and see if they can help. And move fast. (I'm sure you are trying to. I know.)I wish you and your father the best of luck. And better doctors. Please write back later with an update, when you have time. My prayers are with you for your father's speedy and full recovery.Shula

  • Please do not listen to anything Shula or Acuann tell you. My sister just passed away because Shula and Acuann told her that her doctor was wrong and she did not have a serious condition. Acuann even told her to get acupuncture to get healed. These people are going to be investigated for practicing medicine without a license. Shula and Acuann are specifically wanted in connection with my sisters homocide. Thats right homocide. If she would have listened to her doctor instead of these internet quacks she would still be here today. Rest assured I will do everything in my power to put these two behind bars and shut this website down for good.
