HELP!!!! My girlfriend has not had seizures in the past but now she is having major like seizures that last for a few moments. At first she was diag with something called vasovagil. Was put on meds, then another attack. They diag as panic or anxiety attacks. Given more meds now more and more seizure like episodes are happening. Her EEG test came back normal, put on more meds and now she is still having these issues. Can anyone give some insight on this action. Thanks

  • Hi Lilray,A normal EEG does not always mean nothing is wrong, it just means nothing is happening at the time of the EEG. Possible ways to induce abnormal activity for an EEG is sleep deprivation for 24hrs, flashing lights to test for certain forms of epilepsy, stress testing such as asking someone to recount a traumatic experience. Repeated testing is often needed.Medication for seizures is also more of an art than a science. Dosages need to be adjusted, the right combo of meds needs to be found (e.g. anti-anxiety + anti-seizure). It can take up to 2 years to get all of the meds right even with the right diagnosis, specially because people's anxiety levels go up when they start having the seizures so a certain level of emotional coping needs to be reached as well. Some things to help in the meantime can be to stop drinking coffee, get regular sleep patterns (with enough sleep) and to try to cut out foods containing gluten. New research in Parkinsons is showing links to digestion and neuronal problems never thought of before, so don't just dismiss this. Also try to keep a journal of when the seizures happen and watch out for seizures that are not obvious, like periods of memory loss or gaps in speech.Give her doctors the time they need to figure out the dose. Changing doctors is not always the right choice when things don't seem to immediately improve.Hope this helps you.CMS

It could be that the meds are just not working? I was put through EEG after EEG and they were all normal. What is she doing when these episodes occur? Can you tell they are coming on?
