Having a sed rate test tomorrow but I was wondering if my being on 30mg of prednisone the last 7 days would skew the results and unnecessarily rule out auto immune.

Thanks for your time

  • Guess mine was high but not "high-high" but they think my 13, now 14 month cough may be an auto-immune after all. More tests to follow. Might be that my old primary care doctor was right all along with the diagnosis of Wegener's. Glad I kept getting put on steroids every couple of months...Supposed to have a meeting with a bunch of doctors to discuss this soon. Later

  • It's frustrating to try and get a direct answer out of some medical professionals. They are testing for Wegener's tomorrow with another blood test but the nurse was snotty on the phone. She told me that my rate isn't high enough to be Wegener's. I asked if the prednisone I've been on, the inhalers, the antibiotics and the good old fashioned ibuprofen could be lessening the reading and she said yes. If I'm a corrections officer and can figure that out on my own why string me along like that? I understand that I've only been with this office for a month but I've been dealing with this and in the system for 14 months and my old primary care diagnosed me with Wegener's last April and nobody follows up on it because it's rare and they think I've had a bronchitis or asthma attack for over a year? I called that office today and they said he didn't do a sed rate test back then but diagnosed based on other blood work, symptoms and xrays. I guess the hearing loss, nosebleeds, sinus infections and a host of other ailments I've had all tie into it. Would have been nice to know a little more. Frustrating.

  • a Sed rate test is to see if your body is fighting something or has inflamation and is just a marker to look deeper if it is high. I would think that taking prednisone would make a difference, since that drug is usually given to fight inflamation and infection. Ask before the test is done. • Yea, don't mind me. Had a bad couple of days this week. I think we are all on the same sheet of music now.

  • And now I have four white ulcers and one red one in my mouth. They don't hurt though. Hope they have that blood test back tomorrow.
